U. S. S. Constitution and the power of x and west texas

You Are Valuable

One's sense of self-worth can either be a source of positive feelings or of distress. Having a deep realization of your intrinsic value protects you from the need to prove to anyone else that you are an important person. Knowing your unlimited value, you are free from the stress experienced by those who lack this understanding. The Biblical view of humans is that we are all created in the image of the Creator. Realizing that "each person is obligated to say, 'The universe was created for me.'" (Talmud, Sanhedrin 37a) gives you more value than any possible mortal accomplishment. Viewing yourself as a child of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe adds greatly to your sense of personal value.

The opening to this TED video is stunning

The Power of X

Wyman Meinzer graduated from Texas Tech. When he graduated, he moved back to his ranch near Benjamin, Tx so he could begin his photography.

He lived in a dugout for quite a few months, to be in the middle of the roadrunners, coyotes, and snakes.
Tremendous work.

If you're from West Texas and love the outdoors….or not, this will stir your heart!

TITBIT OF NAVAL HISTORY

The U. S. S. Constitution (Old Ironsides), as a combat vessel, carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no evaporators (i.e. fresh water distillers).

However, let it be noted that according to her ship's log, "On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed from Boston with a full complement of 475 officers and men, 48,600 gallons of fresh water, 7,400 cannon shot, 11,600 pounds of black powder and 79,400 gallons of rum."

Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping."

Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300 gallons of rum.

Then she headed for the Azores , arriving there 12 November. She provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese wine.

On 18 November, she set sail for England . In the ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-war and captured and scuttled 12 English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each.

By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, although unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland . Her landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000 gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home.

The U. S. S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February 1799, with no cannon shot, no food, no powder, no rum, no wine, no whisky, and 38,600 gallons of water .

Just sit back and ENJOY the WORLD and the greatest illusion

If I Were To Ask...

When you have an important question, but no one available to ask it to, ask yourself: "If I were to ask an expert for advice, what would he tell me?" Imagining what someone without bias would say, helps you make wiser decisions. This technique will help you access your latent critical thinking ability. In this way, you can have a personal adviser with you at all times!

28 places to visit and Hebronics and a woman of valor

All Inner Strengths in All Contexts

The vast majority of people utilize some of their inner strengths sometimes, but not always. This is certainly true for me. It's probably true for many people who are reading this.

People might be kind, courageous, confident, patient, harmonious, happy, or relaxed in some contexts, but not in others. People might be able to concentrate well and stay focused in some contexts, but not in others. People might be able to stay centered and flowing in some situations, but not in others. It would be wonderful to be able to access all of your inner strengths in all contexts. In other words, if you can be calm and relaxed, confident and courageous, centered, focused, and flowing in some contexts and around some people, it would be wonderful to access those mental and behavioral states around all people, all the time.

An important facet of every human being is our brain. Our brain is always with us wherever we are. It's impossible to forget to take our brain along when we go out, no matter how absent- minded we are. Therefore we can learn how to access the strengths that we have recorded in our mental archives and apply them whenever we need them.

Hebronics

Ma, throw me out the window, a pickle!"

According to Howard Ashland, linguistics professor at Brooklyn College and renowned Hebronics scholar, the sentence structure of Hebronics derives from middle and eastern European language patterns, as well as Yiddish.

Professor Shulman explains, "In Hebronics, the response to any question is usually another question with a complaint that is either implied or stated.  Thus 'How are you?' may be answered, 'How should I be, with my bad feet?' "

Shulman says that Hebronics is a superb linguistic vehicle for expressing sarcasm or skepticism. An example is the repetition of a word with "sh" or "shm" at the beginning: "Mountains, shmountains. Stay away. You should want a nosebleed?"

Another Hebronics pattern is moving the subject of a sentence to the end, with its pronoun at the beginning: "It's beautiful, that dress."

Shulman says one also sees the Hebronics verb moved to the end of the sentence. Thus the response to a remark such as "He's slow as a turtle," could be: "Turtle, shmurtle! Like a fly in Vaseline he walks."

"The responses must have that particular eastern European Jewish intonation", adds Dr. Shulman.

Shulman provided the following examples from his best-selling textbook, Switched-On Hebronics:

Question: "What time is it?"
English answer: "Sorry, I don't know."
Hebronic response: "What am I, a clock?"

Remark: "I hope things turn out okay."
English answer: "Thanks."
Hebronic response: "I should be so lucky!"

Remark: "Hurry up. Dinner's ready."
English answer: "Be right there."
Hebronic response: "Alright already, I'm coming. What's with the 'hurry' business? Is there a fire?"

Remark: "I like the tie you gave me; I wear it all the time."
English answer: "Glad you like it."
Hebronic response: "So what's the matter; you don't like the other ties I gave you?"

Remark: "Sarah and I are engaged."
English answer: "Congratulations!"
Hebronic response: "She could stand to lose a few pounds."

Question: "Would you like to go riding with us?"
English answer: "Just say when."
Hebronic response: "Riding, shmiding! Do I look like a cowboy?"

To the guest of honor at a birthday party:
English comment: "Happy birthday."
Hebronic comment: "A year smarter you should become."

Remark: "It's a beautiful day."
English answer: "Sure is."
Hebronic response: "So the sun is out; what else is new?"

Answering a phone call from a son:
English comment: "It's been a while since you called."
Hebraic comment: "You didn't wonder if I'm dead already?"

WHY THERE ARE NO MORE LUMBERJACKS and British humor and Hebrew National

Let Go of Your Anger

Make it a regular practice to imagine being calm and relaxed in situations that are likely to arouse your anger. As you increase your levels of patience and humility, you will increase your freedom from anger. Today, be totally committed to let go of any anger that you begin to experience.

DENTIST´S WAITING ROOM,, the Louis Vuitton shoe,,,,and what does it take to be a survivor

True Courage

There are many forms of courage: Have the courage to ask people for help when you need it. Have the courage to say, "I don't know." Have the courage to ask questions when you don't understand something. Have the courage to push forward even if you might make mistakes. Have the courage to do the will of our Creator.

Love Yehuda Lave

What does it take to survive? Like many mothers and fathers in our community, mine were survivors of the Nazi killing machine. What does it take to be a survivor – of any kind? Surviving oppression; surviving seeming financial ruin; surviving a close relationship breakdown; surviving addiction.

Growing up in a survivor family, plus the experience of years gained since, I am better equipped to identify some of these survival qualities and skills. All the more timely as we find ourselves in a world of unrelenting confluence of political, economic, social and psychological challenge. May I share with you some personal conclusions:

1.
Belief: Life and world are mysteries. Our finite minds can never logically or scientifically understand the enigma of life's puzzle.  Yet the human being possesses an indefinable aptitude to reach beyond the limits of mind and emotion to  access an 'inner knowing' within the soul. The erudite psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, Victor Frankl, punctuates his conclusions, noting that the essential survival features are strong belief and strength of loving relationships. Since we now know, through mind/body medicine, the ability of positive attitude in the face of adversity to translate down to the cellular level of the body, belief and faith are clearly important ingredients promoting health and integrity of body and mind, and of hope.

2.
Strategic Thinking: In the moment of major challenge, the mind may go into a spin.  The overwhelming fears that arise drive thoughts into catastrophic thinking, further exacerbating mind's illogicality. The survivor needs to draw on inner strength to guide the mind to process information with clarity, searchingly and coolly. A powerful  teaching notes that no challenge is placed in our path that we don't have the capacity to overcome. Imbedding this axiom deeply in the mind injects confidence, a strategic beginning point for structured analysis.

3.
Emotional Intelligence: When fear dominates, the mind suffers confusion and even mental shut-down. The unyielding waves of emotion drown the weak mind, coaxing it to conjure up worst-case scenarios. Fear breeds more fear. Another  teaching  instructs: the mind must tame and guide the heart. This doesn't necessitate the withdrawal or suppression of emotions.  It does require a disciplined mind to do its part and provide a compass-bearing for intelligent emotions to drive strategic thinking.

These cardinal three principles I learned from my parents' response to, and survival of, the tribulations of the holocaust.

These same principles are applicable to any challenge of any magnitude, major or minor. Are you facing a challenge?  Apply these life skills. You possess amazing resilience, and can create a quantum leap of inner calm, leading to the far greater probability of finding solutions to problems.

The greater the challenge, the greater the person's capacity to survive. You, too, can be a survivor.

THE LAWS OF ULTIMATE REALITY and Father's Day Excellent Adventure

Learn From Calm People

A person who loses his temper easily might find it difficult to understand how someone else is able to remain calm in situations when he would become furious. Conversely, someone who is able to remain calm might have difficulty understanding why another person becomes angry in a situation when he remains calm. A quick-tempered person should try to learn from someone who remains calm. He should try to see what he is telling himself about the situation and compare that with what the calm person is telling himself. By asking people who are able to handle difficult situations how they viewed an event, one can constantly find models to learn from.

Northern Lights..... Over Teepees ----- Just Spectacular ! Enjoy.....and what is love???

Heal Others From Their Mistakes

There are two possible approaches to take when you see someone doing something wrong. One is to speak harshly, telling him what he did is wrong. But this approach does not help the other person understand how they can correct the behavior. This is more like stabbing than healing!

The approach of the wise is to show people how they can correct what they did wrong. The only words that should be said are those conducive to healing.

Today, resolve to internalize and practice this valuable piece of wisdom.
And… think of someone you can share this with, who might gain from hearing it.

Love Yehuda

The bible teaches that love is the pleasure one has in focusing on the virtues in another person -- and identifying the person with those virtues.

Sometimes we confuse love with infatuation. If you ever hear someone say, "She's perfect" or "He's perfect" -- they're infatuated. No one is without faults or weaknesses. When people say, "Love is blind" they really mean that "Infatuation is blind." Love is completely open-eyed -- you see the reality, good and bad, and you choose to focus on the good and identifying the person with his or her virtues.

This is the fallacy of Western Civilization's concept of love. We believe in the Greek idea that Cupid comes and shoots an arrow and two people fall in love ... forever! If that worked then there wouldn't be such a high divorce rate. Then again, we can always blame it on that little rascal Cupid! He has no respect for relationships or marriage. He goes around shooting arrows through the boss's and secretary's hearts or through the doctor's and comely drug representative's hearts. Accordingly, we are not the beneficiaries of Cupid; we are the victims. Cupid is the biggest excuse and biggest con for not taking responsibility for one's actions!

What does the bible teach us regarding Love? Love is not just an emotion, it is an obligation. The Almighty commands us in the Torah, "Love your neighbor as yourself ..." (Leviticus 19:18). And ... if the Almighty commands us, then it must be possible!

What's fascinating about love is that virtually everyone thinks that it's a good idea to love your neighbor. However, if you ask, "Can you command someone to love his neighbor?" more than likely they'll respond, "Are you nuts? You never met my neighbor. Never a meaner, nastier human being on this earth!"

How is it possible to love everyone? Many people love humanity, they just hate individuals. First, we have to realize that love is truly not just a sporadic, fleeting emotion, it is both an obligation and a matter of choice. Ask a young man or woman who doesn't think that it is possible to love all people, "Someday, if you get married and have a baby, will you love it?" What will they answer? "Of course I will! How can you ask such a question?" Then ask them, "But, what if he's like your mean, nasty neighbor?"

We all know that there is someone who loves that mean, nasty neighbor and it is probably not his wife or ex-wife -- it's his mother. Ask the mother of a juvenile delinquent who is hooked on drugs, has a police record, skips school and doesn't make his bed, if she loves him. She'll say, "Yes!" What about the fact that he's a juvenile delinquent? "I should have disciplined him more." That he's hooked on drugs? "He has bad friends." That he has a police record? "What do you expect growing up in this neighborhood?" That he skips school? "If the classes weren't so large and the teachers were more interesting, he'd go!" That he doesn't make his bed? "No one is perfect!" If asked why she loves him, she might respond, "He has a good heart." She has an "answer" for every negative attribute. However, she chooses to focus on the positive and to love her son.

We all have the power to find the positive qualities in others and focus on taking pleasure in them. Likewise, we all know that we can take positive qualities and identify them with the negative. The person is generous? He's only doing it to gain goodwill. The person is kind? He's just hiding his terrible temper and looking to build a good reputation.

How can you develop your power of love? Play the Love Game. Take the person you least like and for 30 days write down something positive about him or her each day. After 30 days, spend 5 minutes a day for a week prioritizing those good qualities. For the next 30 days, write down what bothers you about that person -- one trait or action a day. Then spend 5 minutes a day for a week trying to understand why he responds that way. Perhaps he or she has low self-esteem, has a father who was domineering, angry and easily frustrated -- or the person isn't even aware of how they treat people.

The Hebrew word for love is "ahava". The root of the word is "hav" which means "to give." By giving to others and doing for others we increase our love for them. Who loves the other more -- the parent or the child? Parents love their children more because they have given so much more to their children. Want to love someone? Think of something you can do to help them.

Loving people -- taking pleasure in and identifying them with their virtues -- does not mean letting them take advantage of you or control you. The results are more pleasure for you and less frustration. Want to learn more?
