HOT RODS..and Three man Chess and Early San Diego

Feel Secure in Your Value

A king arose in the middle of the night and fixed the wick of a lamp to prevent it from extinguishing. His subjects asked him, "Why did you not ask us to do it?"

"I was the king when I arose, and I was still the king when I went back to sleep," he replied.

The lesson: Someone who is aware of his value does not worry about losing it.

Jews can't pray at temple mount without being arrested

Rabbi Ariel Under Criminal Probe, 'Banned Indefinitely' from Temple Mount

A criminal investigation has been launched against Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, founder of the Temple Institute.

Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, the 78 year old founder of the Temple Institute and a former Israeli paratrooper who took part in Israel's liberation of Temple Mount in 1967, has been banned from entering the holiest Jewish site by Israeli Police.

Ariel was informed of the ban last week after attempting to visit the site. Although an official reason was not given at the time, the Rabbi was told by police officers that he was banned indefinitely.

A spokesman for the Jerusalem Police told the Jewish Press that the rabbi conducted himself in a manner which is not in compliance with the law and a criminal investigation has been launched against him.

Rabbi Chaim Richman, International Director of the Temple Institute, wrote an email in response to a Jewish Press inquiry, saying: "The Israel Police's recent shift of policy towards Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount is a throwback to the dark ages of totalitarian rule. The draconian, illegal suppression of Jewish presence, prayer and identification is a stain on this great country's record of democracy. While on the one hand, the State of Israel champions human rights and pluralism, the treatment of Jews on the Temple Mount bespeaks utter contempt, insensitivity to religious feelings, and a brutal quashing of the most basic human rights."

Rabbi Chaim Richman added that "it is inconceivable that Jews are treated as criminals for expressing a desire to pray at their holiest site. It is equally unconscionable that Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who served with the paratroopers that liberated the Temple Mount in the 1967 Six Day War, risking his life and burying his comrades for the sake of the Jewish sovereignty of the Temple Mount, should be served with an order distancing him from the Temple Mount indefinitely. His 'crime' was giving thanks to God, in that very spot – for the return of the site to the Jewish people. Has it indeed returned to the Jewish people? Is the Temple Mount 'in our hands?' Every day that this situation is allowed to continue is a step backwards for the State of Israel."

The harsh police move is thought by a source at the Temple Institute to be related to a You Tube video showing a large group of Jews who ascended the mount with Rabbi Ariel on Jerusalem Day, to celebrate 45 years since the liberation of the site.

In addition to Rabbi Ariel, a number of other Jewish worshipers that visited the site on Jerusalem day and are seen in the video have also been banned.

The video shows a large gathering of Jews who were able to pray, sing and say blessings while on the Temple Mount, for the first time in many years, unhindered by nearby police. The contingency of Jewish worshipers was led by Knesset members Michael Ben Ari and Uri Ariel, as well as by Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, founder of the Temple Institute, and other prominent rabbis and public figures.

On the video, Rabbi Ariel can be heard saying, "I have waited forty five years to be able to say the Shehechianu (lit. "He who has kept us alive," a blessing of thanksgiving) here on the Temple Mount."

His prayer of thanks is then followed by a memorial prayer for his fallen comrades who lost their lives in the mission to liberate Temple Mount during the Six Day War. The group was accompanied by journalists and cameramen from Israel's major news outlets. The worshipers exited the Mount singing. No violence or protest occurred.

Here is the video that is thought to have led to Rabbi Ariel's ban:

In response to the ban, Likud MK Tzippy Hotovely released a statement today calling for the convening of an urgent Interior Committee meeting in the Knesset to discuss freedom of Jewish prayer on Temple Mount. "This is a fatal blow to freedom of worship, and has no place in the state of Israel," MK Hotovely said.

AMAZING MONKEY ORCHID and virtual tour of Machu-Picchu

Cut Worrying Down to Size

Rabbi Leib Dimiles, a wealthy businessman, was also a righteous Bible  scholar. Upon receiving news that all his money was lost, he calmly returned to his studies. His wife was shocked: "How can you remain calm in the face of such misfortune?"

Rabbi Leib replied, "Fortunately I have a very quick mind. The amount of worrying that would take someone else a year, I can worry about in a few seconds."

The Amazing Monkey Orchid

Nature doesnt need an audience. These wonderful orchids come from
the south-eastern Ecuadorian and Peruvian cloud forests from elevations of
1000 to 2000 meters and as such not many people throughout history got to see
them. However, thanks to intrepid collectors we do get to see this wonderful
Monkey Orchid. Someone didnt need much imagination to name it though, lets face it.

Its scientific name is Dracula simia, the last part nodding towards the fact
that this remarkable orchid bears more than a passing resemblance to a monkeys face
although we wont go as far as to be species specific on this one. The Dracula (genus)
part of its name refers to the strange characteristic of the two long spurs of the sepals,
reminiscent of the fangs of a certain Transylvanian count of film and fiction fame. http://www.flickr.com/photos/quimbaya/697685865/

The orchid was only named in 1978 by the botanist Luer but is in a family containing over
120 species mostly found in Ecuador.  Up in the cloud mountains the monkey orchid can flower at any time
it is not season specific. It scent resembles that of a ripe orange.

The examples seen here are all cultivated though it remains very rare in captivity.
For that reason dont make a dash down to your local horticulturalist. Yet for those lucky
enough to have one, if kept quite cool and in partial shade and it can thrive and flower.
Like all orchids, however, it needs a lot of care and patience
so you may want to consider a cactus instead!

If you don't quite see why this orchid gets its name, then do one thing.
Move back from your screen a few feet and take another look.
Close up the similarity is good, from a distance it is astounding.

GOOD MORNING! Did you ever notice how many jokes there are about marriage? "What's the shortest sentence in the English language? 'I am.' What is the longest sentence? 'I do.' or: "Marriage is like a deck of cards -- you start off with hearts and diamonds ... and then you look for a club and a spade." Why are there so many jokes? There is a lot of pain in a bad marriage and with a joke you can verbalize the pain in an acceptable manner -- and know you are not alone. It takes wisdom, focus and effort to create a happy marriage.

Would you like a happier, more blissful marriage? Then you'll probably want to keep

Teaches Rabbi Pamensky: Men and women are different, not just physically and emotionally. Perhaps the biggest difference is that women are relationship beings ... and men are not. At one seminar he divided the men and women into two groups to come up with descriptions of the ideal husband, wife and marriage. When they reassembled, he called upon a woman. However, before asking her for the descriptions, he asked her the name of a woman who was in her group. "How many children? Boys? Girls?" He then asked the same questions to 2 other women. The women knew about each woman in the group.

Rabbi Pamensky then called upon a man and asked him to name ANY man in the group. He couldn't do it. None of them could. They had worked out excellent descriptions of the ideal husband, wife and marriage, but it just wasn't important to know each other's names or about their families. Says Rabbi Pamensky, "When do they learn the names of the other men? When their wives introduce them!"

What do men need to be successful with a relationship being? They need a job description to know what to do! Here is a husband's job description: Your job is to make your wife happy all the time! If one told women that their job was to make their husband happy -- then the husband would be happy. However, if the husband makes his wife happy, she'll return it multifold ... because she is a relationship being! Make her happy and she'll make the relationship happy and filled with intimacy, connection, closeness, passion and growth.

How does one make his wife happy? Rabbi Pamensky quotes Rabbi Moshe Aharon Stern, of blessed memory, who once advised, "All you have to do are the 3 A's -- Attention, Affection and Appreciation. A woman needs attention, craves affection and so rightly deserves appreciation!" (When Rabbi Pamensky once asked a group if they knew what the "3 A's" are that one should give his wife, one cynical pundit said, "Yes! American Express, Apology and Alimony...)

Advises Rabbi Pamensky, "The relationship is not about thinking. The language of a relationship is feelings. Feelings have nothing to do with logic. A man has to make his wife feel that she is the most important part of his life, the absolute first priority!"

How does one give attention? Put down the newspaper, stop typing on the computer or texting on the Blackberry, turn off the music ... turn around, face your wife, look her in the eyes ... and listen. Why does a woman interrupt at the last moment of a football or basketball game in overtime? She wants to know that she is more important than the game. Give her attention and she'll give you space.

How does one give his wife affection? A man tends to compartmentalize life: business tones, parenting tones, walking the dog tones. For his wife he needs affectionate tones -- tones of of love and respect for everytime he speaks with her!

What does Rabbi Pamensky advise women to know in order to make their husbands happy? Two things: 1) All men are giant egos with legs -- and egos need stroking all the time, especially when your husband does his job of making you happy! He has to feel that if you were the only woman alive and you had 3 billion resumes of men wanting to marry you, that you'd pick him! You mean the most to him. You know him best. Therefore, your ego stroke is the only real ego stroke he gets in life.

The second thing a woman has to know in order to make her husband happy is to give her husband a break -- especially when he does NOT do his job of making his wife happy! Do not nag, harp or criticize him when he slips up. It doesn't help. It makes everything worse! Give him a break when he doesn't do his job and be appreciative when he does -- then he'll be more likely to make you happy in the future.

You don't have to believe everything in this list.
