If you spend a lot of time thinking about the negative in yourself, in life and in the people around you, you eventually become a bitter person, disgusted with everything and everyone. That is the inescapable, circular effect of being hypercritical. You think you're seeing the truth – that people are untrustworthy and that life is disappointing. But what you are really seeing is the result of your own thoughts being thrown back at you in mirror image.
