It takes effort to get rid of negative behaviors

Just as it takes effort to learn an instrument or a new language, it takes enormous effort for most people to be consistently kind-hearted, diligent, responsible, reliable and reasonable.

Nothing good happens without constant effort. And the impetus for this change must come from within the person. The world's best therapists and the most loving spouse cannot succeed in getting a smoker to quit, or an internet addict to turn off the computer unless the person himself says, "I want to stop hurting myself and everyone around me!

I'm willing to go through whatever it takes, including the pain of feeling deprived, depressed and even a little insane, to shed my old habits and become a self-respecting and loving human being." Until he humbly realizes that he needs help and that he wants to leave the darkness, his animal nature will dominate.

Checking Gas Meter

Two gas corporation service officer,a senior training chief and a young student trainee were out checking meters in a slumy neighborhood. They parked their van at the end of the lane and worked their way to the other end.

At the last dwelling,a woman looking out her kitchen window watched the two men as they checked her gas meter.

After finishing the meter check, the chief challenged his younger colleague to a foot race down the lane and back to the truck to prove that an older guy could outrun a younger one.

As they came running up to the truck, they realized the lady from that last house was huffing and puffing right behind them. They stopped and asked her what was wrong.

Gasping for breath, she replied, "When I see two gas men running as hard as you two were, I figured I'd better run too!"

Ramblings of an Old Mind

I found this timely, because today I was in a store that sells sunglasses, and only sunglasses. A young lady walked over to me and asked, "What brings you in today?"

I looked at her, and said, "I'm interested in buying a refrigerator."  She didn't quite know how to respond.

I decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.

I thought about making a fitness movie for folks my age and calling it 'Pumping Rust.'

When people see a cat's litter box they always say, "Oh, have you got a cat?" Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"

Employment application blanks always ask who is to be called in case of an emergency.   I think you should write,  'An ambulance.'

The older you get the tougher it is to lose weight because by then your body and your fat have   gotten to be really good friends.

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

Did you ever notice: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL.

The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble.

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words ' The'   and ' IRS ' together it spells   'Theirs...'

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

Ah! Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable.

Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.

May you always have Love to Share, Cash to Spare, And Friends who Care.
