House Tour, the Queen's 60th and people and make you feel good about yourself

People Who Make You Feel Good About Yourself

There are people who consistently make others feel good about themselves. When you are in the presence of someone who has a "good eye" and a "good heart," you see yourself in a more positive light. Such a person treats you with respect and makes it easier for you to increase your own level of self-respect. Such a person says and does things that bring out the best in you.

Remember how you felt about yourself after encounters with such people. Let those experiences build your self-image. Don't just look at it as, "I felt really good about myself when I spoke to this person." Rather, view these encounters as life-enhancing experiences that permanently build your self-image. Even many years later, you can allow these encounters to raise your view of yourself.

When it penetrated my brain how long she's been around, it gives new meaning to the phrase

"Long Live the Queen"

How old does this one make you feel?

As she celebrates her 60th anniversary as queen this week

THE "man cave" of caves; The late Dick Clark's hill-top cave/house! and the Jewish influence on Civilization

Use Sadness to Help Others

Sadness has a value in that when we are sad, we can learn to appreciate the suffering of others. This will motivate us to help them. Our own emotional experience will motivate us more than if we merely have an "intellectual knowledge" of the obligation to help.

Rabbi Ken Spiro has written a new book -- WorldPerfect -- The Jewish Impact on Civilization. For years, Rabbi Spiro, a historian, would begin his class on Jewish history by canvassing his students as to what are the values that they and the world hold dear which are necessary for a utopian society. Here are the results compiled from approximately 1,500 students:

  1. Value of Life -- People have the right to life, and to live with a certain basic dignity and rights.
  2. World Peace -- On all levels, communally and globally, people and nations should co-exist in peace and harmony with mutual respect.
  3. Justice and Equality -- All people, regardless of race, sex, or social status, have the right to be treated equally and fairly in the eyes of the law.
  4. Education -- Everyone has the right to be functionally literate as a basic tool for personal advancement and the ability to attain knowledge.
  5. Family -- A strong, stable family structure is necessary for the moral foundation of society.
  6. Social Responsibility -- Individually and nationally, we are responsible for each other. This includes responsibility for disease, poverty, famine, crime and drugs, as well as environmental problems and animal rights.

Where do these values come from? Most people would say Greece or Rome. Would you be surprised to find out that they are wrong? In a highly readable, well-documented and fascinating book, Rabbi Spiro illuminates the origins of values and virtues in Western Civilization. Would you be surprised to learn that these values came from the Jewish people?

If you are thinking "the good rabbi is exaggerating a 'bit' about the Jewish influence on civilizing humanity," I bring John Adams, Second President of the United States! Writes Mr. Adams, "... I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation. If I were an atheist and believed in blind eternal fate, I should still believe that fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential instrument for civilizing the nations. ... They are the most glorious Nation that ever inhabited this Earth. The Romans and their Empire were but a bauble in comparison of the Jews. They have given religion to three-quarters of the Globe and have influenced the affairs of Mankind more, and more happily than any other Nation, ancient or modern." (from a letter to F.A. Van der Kemp, 1808. Pennsylvania Historical Society.)

Paul Johnson, a Christian historian, writes in his book, The History of the Jews, (New York: Harper & Row, 1987) : "One way of summing up 4,000 years of Jewish history is to ask ourselves what would have happened to the human race if the Jewish people would not have come into being. Certainly the world without the Jews would have been a radically different place. Humanity might have eventually stumbled upon all the Jewish insights. But we cannot be sure.

"To [the Jews] we owe the idea of equality before the law; of the sanctity of life, of collective conscience and of social responsibility; of peace and love, and many other items which constitute the basic moral furniture of the human mind.... It is almost beyond our capacity to imagine how the world would have fared if they had never emerged."

(Sadly, America's oldest 'teenager' passed away on 4/18/2012)

Dick Clark's rockin' retreat listed for $3.5 million

The legendary personality's custom-designed home overlooking the Pacific looks like something straight out of the Flintstones, but it's selling at modern day prices.

Dick Clark has listed his unique, one-bedroom Malibu home for $3.5 million, according to Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

Whoever buys the place from the "world's oldest teenager" will likely feel as if they are channeling another celebrity: Fred Flintstone.

The architect, Phillip Jon Brown, said the prehistoric design was dictated by circumstance. The 23-acre site is next to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area, which originally objected to Clark building a home on the property.

"[Clark] dug in his heels and said he was going to build a house there," said Brown, "I came up with the idea that if the house looked like a rock formation, the park conservancy would let us build on top. They liked the concept."

The Channel Islands, Boney Mountains and the lights of Los Angeles can all be seen from this home.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Orchids and spread love and peace with the eggs of the Red Robin

Spread Love and Peace

Aaron, Moses' brother, was a master at making peace between people. He had intense love for everyone, and with this great love he was able to motivate other people to love each other. Flames of love came from his heart, and this entered the hearts of everyone else.

Today, think of two people you know who need to make peace, and use Aaron as a model.

Beautiful commercial for BBC

...."RED RED ROBIN COMES BOB BOB BOBBIN ALONG"

A robin and her 4 eggs- wonderful to see!

I can't imagine anyone of any age not enjoying this!

In an amazing video clip an American robin lays her four eggs in a hanging basket and the home owners set up a camera to
film the results.

Should hear it with speakers on...and click to start video.
    (3.1 minutes)

Amazing  -  the variety of orchids!

BEAUTIFUL!!! Orchids

The photos are great, but the philosophy is even better!

We never get what we want,
We never want what we get,
We never have what we like,
We never like what we have.
And still we live & love.
That's life...

The best kind of friend,
Is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with,
Never say a word,

And then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know

What we've got until it's gone,
But it's also true that we don't know
What we've been missing until it arrives..

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back!

Don't expect love in return;
Just wait for it to grow in their heart,
But if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,

An hour to like someone,
And a day to love someone,
But it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile,
Because it takes only a smile to
Make a dark day seem bright.
Find the one that makes your heart smile!

May you have

Enough happiness to make you sweet,
Enough trials to make you strong,
Enough sorrow to keep you human,
And enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes.

If you feel that it hurts you,

It probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people
Don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
Happiness lies for
Those who cry,
Those who hurt,
Those who have searched,
And those who have tried,
For only they can appreciate the importance of people
Who have touched their lives.

When you were born, you were crying
And everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so that when you die,
You're the one who is smiling
And everyone around you is crying.

Please send this message
To those people who mean something to you,
To those who have touched your life in one way or another,
To those who make you smile when you really need it,
To those that make you see the brighter side of things When you are really down,
To those who you want to know
That you appreciate their friendship.

And if you don't, don't worry,
Nothing bad will happen to you,
You will just miss out on the opportunity
to brighten someone's life with this message...
