Choose Happy Thoughts

You feel sad when you keep your mind focused on negative things. Your thoughts are the cause of your unhappiness.

You have a large choice of what to think about. Instead of causing yourself sadness, focus on happiness-producing thoughts.

Imagine that you have a tape recorder and are choosing between two tapes. One will make you happy and cheerful, while the other will make you sad and miserable. Only a fool would choose the tape that causes suffering.

Your mind is constantly playing tapes. It is always your choice between self-statements and thoughts that that will make you happy and cheerful, and those that will cause you misery. Consistently choose positive thoughts and you will live a happy life.

Although we can choose our thoughts, dates play into our life. Last Friday 3/3 was my Mother's English birthday. She passed away five years ago now. I choose to remember her positive points and how she loved her children. It is of course sad to remember some one no longer with us, but choose happy thoughts.

99 Tips for a Divorce-Proof Marriage

Marriage is tough on men, women, and children. Living with another person for years in the same house while facing the challenges of raising children, financing your life, working and dealing with health problems is never easy. So if you want a rock solid marriage, one that will go the long haul - read these words of advice carefully, and write them on your heart

1. Always remember what drew you to each other in the first place.

2. Make a written and recorded commitment that divorce is not an option.

3. Say I love you to one another every day.

4. Give a hug or kiss every day.

5. Do not withhold intercourse unless by mutual consent or special circumstances!

6. Enjoy at least one date night a week, and go above and beyond to make it special.

7. Become each others best friend.

8. Let no one get involved with your marital affairs, including parents, in-laws, and friends!

9. Exercise and work out together.

10. Put  then your marriage first, then your children, then your extended family, then everything else, in that order.

11. Become transparent with one another.

12. Set boundaries for your marriage. It's important that you both know what you can and cannot do.

13. Put aside your pride and ego – the winner of the argument is usually the loser!

14. Make their favorite meal.

15. Do things your spouse loves without basing it on their performance.

16. Don't go tit for tat. Learn to let go.

17. Don't let the sun go down while you angry – in other words, try to resolve the issue asap.

18. Create a fellowship of friends, and be around other happily married couples, they will remind you what's good about relationships.

19. Plan and surprise your spouse with romantic vacations as your budget allows.

20. Live a healthy lifestyle.

21. Don't keep any bank accounts hidden from one another.

22. Don't lie to each other. A hard truth is always better than an easy lie.

23. Do not entertain any relationship with ex-spouses or ex-boyfriends/girlfriends from your past. If children are involved, the relationship should be limited to them.

24. Spend some type of quality time with your spouse.

25. Invest in your marriage – do a marriage retreat at least twice a year.

26. If faith is a big part of your life, read your holy book together and discuss God's plan for marriage.

27. Renew your vows – remember your promise to your spouse at the altar – for better or worse, in sickness and in health.

28. Be ready to make many sacrifices – doing things you may not feel like doing.

29. Be ready to make compromises.

30. Listen to your spouse's guidance.

31. If your marriage is on the rocks, don't wait to get counseling.

32. Hear one another out.

41. Keep good company around you. You want people who can encourage and uplift you. When you feel good it's easier to invest in the relationship.

42. Husbands, help out around the house. Remember that your wife is a helpmate, but that doesn't mean she does everything.

43. Wives, encourage your husband, give them praise. It strengthens them.

44. Find out your strengths and weaknesses and be ready to help one another with where you are weak.

47. Give compliments to one another.

48. Understand that the neighbor's grass isn't greener, you just have to water your own lawn more.

49. Don't compare your marriage to someone else's – you don't know what is going on behind closed doors.

50. Watch what you let affect your mood or cloud your thoughts. Today's reality shows, our society's view, and what you see on TV are not good examples of marriage. Find your own path.

51. Never embarrass your spouse in public – deal with your issues in private.

52. If needed, seek marital counseling, it can help.

53. Do not verbally abuse your spouse.

54. Do not physically abuse your spouse.

85. Keep in mind your spouse is not your enemy but your best friend.

86. Don't look at marriage as an obligation but as a chance to love your significant other unconditionally.

87. Our character should reflect the fruits of spirit, love, patience, and kindness.

88. Your objective should not be to change your spouse, but for your spouse to see your change.

89. You can't change your spouse, but you can change how you love them and how you react to them.

90. Your objective should be to make your spouse a better person as a result of being with you, not by control, but by love.

91. Husbands, make love to her mind during the day and the rest will follow.

92. Wives, spend time encouraging him and supporting him and there is nothing you won't happily get.

93. Don't focus on your spouse's weakness, focus on their strengths.

94. Work as a team.

95. Ask your significant other for areas they can improve in.

96. Ask your significant other if there are any needs going unmet.

97. Take showers and baths together.

98. Leave love notes around the house.

99. Look into their eyes, touch their face, and give thanks to him or her who puts up with you during the good and bad times.

The Joy of Good Deeds

The commandments were given for our ultimate benefit and pleasure. Therefore we should feel great joy whenever doing any good deeds.

[Think about the good deeds you currently perform with joy. Then, think about the potential joy you have not yet experienced - and how your life would be enhanced by mastering the ability to experience joy for good deeds.]

Israel Does Not Cause Anti-Semitism By Alan M. Dershowitz - 26 Shevat 5777 – February 22, 2017

Originally posted to the Gatestone Institute website}

In a recent letter to the New York Times, the current Earl of Balfour, Roderick Balfour, argued that it is Israel's fault that there is "growing anti-Semitism around the world." Balfour, who is a descendent of Arthur Balfour, the British Foreign Secretary who wrote the Balfour Declaration a hundred years ago, wrote the following: "the increasing inability of Israel to address [the condition of Palestinians], coupled with the expansion into Arab territory of the Jewish settlements, are major factors in growing anti-Semitism around the world." He argued further that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "owes it to the millions of Jews around the world" who suffer anti-Semitism, to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

This well-intentioned but benighted view is particularly ironic in light of the fact that the Balfour Declaration had, as one of its purposes, to end anti-Semitism around the world by creating a homeland for the Jewish people. But now the scion of Lord Balfour is arguing that it is Israel that is causing anti-Semitism.

Roderick Balfour's views are simply wrong both as a matter of fact and as a matter of morality. Anyone who hates Jews "around the world" because they disagree with the policy of Israel would be ready to hate Jews on the basis of any pretext. Modern day anti-Semites, unlike their forbearers, need to find excuses for their hatred, and anti-Zionism has become the excuse de jure.

To prove the point, let us consider other countries: has there been growing anti-Chinese feelings around the world as the result of China's occupation of Tibet? Is there growing hatred of Americans of Turkish background because of Turkey's unwillingness to end the conflict in Cypress? Do Europeans of Russian background suffer bigotry because of Russia's invasion of Crimea? The answer to all these questions is a resounding no. If Jews are the only group that suffers because of controversial policies by Israel, then the onus lies on the anti-Semites rather than on the nation state of the Jewish people.

Moreover, Benjamin Netanyahu's responsibility is to the safety and security of Israelis. Even if it were true that anti-Semitism is increasing as the result of Israeli policies, no Israeli policy should ever be decided based on the reaction of bigots around the world. Anti-Semitism, the oldest of bigotries, will persist as long as it is seen to be justified by apologists like Roderick Balfour. Thought Balfour does not explicitly justify anti-Semitism, the entire thrust of his letter is that Jew hatred is at least understandable in light of Israel's policies.

Balfour doesn't say a word about the unwillingness of the Palestinian leadership to accept Israel's repeated offers of statehood to the Palestinians. From 1938 through 2008, the Palestinians have been offered and repeatedly rejected agreements that would have given them statehood. Even today, the Palestinian leadership refuses to accept Netanyahu's offer to sit down and negotiate a final status agreement without any pre-conditions. Nor does Balfour mention Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorists groups that constantly threaten Israel, along with Iran's publicly declared determination to destroy the state that Lord Balfour helped to create. It's all Israel's fault, according to Balfour, and the resulting increase in anti-Semitism is Israel's fault as well.

Roderick Balfour ends his letter by essentially joining the boycott movement against Israel. He has declared his unwillingness to participate in the Centenary Celebration of the Balfour Declaration, until and unless Israel takes unilateral action to end the conflict. So be it. I am confident that the author of the Balfour Declaration would have willing participated in this celebration, recognizing that no country in history has ever contributed more to the world – in terms of medical, technological, environmental and other innovations — in so short a period of time (69 years) than has Israel. Nor has any country, faced with comparable threats, ever been more generous in its offers of peace, more committed to the Rule of Law, or more protective of civilians who are used as human shields by those who attack its civilians.

So let the Celebration of the Balfour Declaration go forward without the participation of Roderick Balfour. Let Israel continue to offer a peaceful resolution to its conflict with the Palestinians. And let the Palestinians finally come to the bargaining table, and recognize Israel as the Nation State of the Jewish people in the way that the Balfour Declaration intended.

It Was More Than 100 Years of Anti-Semitism at the State Department

At 1:34-35 into the confirmation hearing of David Friedman, this was said by Senator Cory Booker (D-New Jersey):

YOU ALSO ATTACKED THE STATE DEPARTMENT, WITH 100 YEAR HISTORY OF ANTI-SEMITISM –

That should have been "more than 100 years".

Consider this, about Selah Merrill:

He was an anti-Semite, opposed to Jewish immigration and settlement in Palestine, he was as good as a sworn enemy to the Yishuv. Indeed, he would famously conclude that "1. Palestine is not ready for the Jews. 2. The Jews are not ready for Palestine." What the Jews wanted, he believed, wasn't land to colonize, but cities "where they can live on the fortunes or the misfortunes of other people." He even felt that there must have been some hidden justification for the persecution of the Jews in Russia, or that government would not have been so anxious to get rid of them. The effects of this anti-Semitism, unfortunately, were vast: because his first term as consul (1882-84) coincided with the beginnings of Jewish agricultural settlement in Palestine, Merrill's prejudice would help shape the State Department's antagonistic attitude to the Jewish people in the Holy Land.

This:

Selah Merrill, having held the post of U.S. Consul at Jerusalem for almost three decades – appointed by three Republican presidents – is here installed in that position for the last time by President McKinley. Added to Merrill's record of longevity, is this dubious distinction: he is generally considered the greatest reviler of the Jews to ever occupy the post of consul at Jerusalem.

And this:

his views on Jews in then Palestine whose "combination of acute interest in the ancient Hebrews and intense disdain for their modern descendants bears examination…Merrill's case is especially intriguing because his attitude towards Jews had political consequences. With the advent of Zionism, these ambivalent attitudes affected the consideration of Jewish claims…"

That was from Shalom Goldman's study which includes also this: "The Jew needs to learn that his place in the world will be determined by what he can do for himself, and not so much by what Abraham did for himself four thousand years ago. It has a most mischevious effect to be always associating the modern Jews with eminent men and deeds in the remote ages of the past."* So wrote Selah Merrill, U.S. Consul in Jerusalem, in a report on Palestine. Merrill felt impelled to include in his report a long section entitled "Jews and Jewish Colonies in Palestine" in response to the Blackstone Memorial of 1891, which petitioned President Benjamin Harrison to support the convening of an international conference to discuss Jewish claims to Palestine. The Blackstone Memorial had over four hundred prominent signatories, the vast majority of them Protestants; for many of them the contemporary Jews were the natural heirs of the ancient Hebrews: "Why not give Palestine back to them again? According to God's distribution of nations, it is their home, an inalienable possession, from which they were expelled by force." 1

It was just such restorationist sentiment that Merrill so vehemently opposed. His report calls the memorial "one of the wildest schemes brought before the public." It is the "character and habits of the modern Jews" that will doom their Palestine settlement efforts to failure. According to Merrill, the originators of the petition "appear to be ignorant of two great facts, (1) that Palestine is not ready for the Jews and (2) that the Jews are not ready for Palestine."

And this list from a German language research paper:

This is in addition to this evidence from the text of a note from Secretary of State Robert Lansing to President Woodrow Wilson in 1917 opposing the US's endorsement of the Balfour Declaration.

In Depth Analysis Thousands of Israelis Stand to Lose When Blue Lines Move Overnight, their home became 'illegal'.

Can't see images? Click here...

Rabbi Yehuda Lave

Curiosity and Peace Of Mind

Some people lack peace of mind because of their curiosity. Any piece of news they think they are missing makes them feel restless.

Some feel this so strongly that whenever they see two people talking, they feel frustrated until they find out what has been said. Usually, the information gained is irrelevant and inconsequential.

Even worse, such curiosity will lead to a person's eavesdropping and hearing information that would be preferable not to hear.

Today, when someone starts telling you a "juicy bit of news," excuse yourself politely and forgo the information.

 Love Yehuda Lave

Thousands of Israelis Stand to Lose When Blue Lines Move Overnight, their home became 'illegal'.

In March 2015, a family in the secular community of Nili, not far from Modi'in and Highway 6, woke up one morning to a new reality.

Despite moving to Nili from Tel Aviv two years earlier and legally buying a home on state land, they were informed by their local municipality that overnight their house had become 'illegal' – as a result of the reclassification of the land, which their home stood on.

While unable to prove what the actual status of the land was, a team of Civil Administration inspectors, known as the State Property Delimitation Team, or the 'Blue Line Team,' decided that the property did not belong to the state.

A 'Blue Line is the name given to a computer generated line indicating a community's boundaries in Judea, Samaria, and throughout Israel. Land inside the Blue Line is considered legal, while the status of the land outside is considered disputed.

In response, the Nili family filed a civil law suit against the Civil Administration in a Jerusalem District Court for 1 million NIS in damages, claiming that as a result of their decision, the family's home originally valued at 2 million NIS is now not even worth half of that.

31 other Nili families are also in the same boat as their homes are now outside of the 'Blue Line' of the community.

But the Blue Line Team's ruling doesn't only affect the families of Nili, but in actuality it could have an impact on thousands of other families living in Judea and Samaria, whose homes became "illegal" overnight as a result of these new land classifications.

But how did this new reality come to be?

In 1979, Prime Minister Menachem Begin, in compliance with a ruling by the High Court of Justice, decided that establishing or enlarging communities in Judea and Samaria would only be carried out on state-owned land.

Therefore the need arose for Begin to properly identify the status of the land throughout Judea and Samaria. As opposed to the land in pre-1967 Israel, whose status was legislated during the 1950s and '60s, in Judea and Samaria this process never took place.

Charged with the task was attorney Plia Albeck, who ran the Civil Department of the State Prosecutor's Office – ultimately for 24 years.

It took Albeck and her team years utilizing existing maps, aerial imagery, and going out into the field and exploring for themselves to make a declaration as to which properties were state land. The communities established in those areas were delineated on maps within blue lines indicating their legal status.

As a result of Albeck's work, in those areas deemed state land, properties were purchased, and houses went up without any legal issues.

However, in 1999, the Civil Administration charged with overseeing civilian life in Judea and Samaria decided to reassess Albeck's findings and the 'Blue Line Team' was established.

Since that time the team has been reevaluating Albeck's lines and redrawing their own blue lines in areas where even the slightest doubts arose. Another example of their work similar to the Nili case is an incident in March 2016, when families living in 190 homes in the Binyamin region community of Eli woke up one morning to find themselves outside of the blue line of their town.

All of this madness because of a computer generated blue-line.

And that's where the new Knesset Regulation Law comes in to play. Passed two weeks ago in the Knesset by a vote of 60-52 the bill introduced by Bayit Yehudi MK Bezalel Smotrich, seeks to provide justice for thousands of families living in homes built throughout Judea and Samaria, who are experiencing this frightening reality.

The bill's introduction was a result of the research carried out by the Regavim Movement due to its understanding of the potential threat to the homes in question, and raising awareness among MK.

Under the new law, homes built on disputed property, or property which became disputed as a result of the 'Blue Liners' work, would remain intact, while Arabs with legitimate claims to the land would be given alternate plots of land or monetary compensation totaling 125% of their land's value.

It's important to note that property claims – often brought forward on behalf of Arabs by extremist anti-Israel NGOs – will need to be verified, since until now land not classified as state land in Judea and Samaria was automatically deemed private land regardless of its true status.

While the Regulation Law passed, there are indications from many sources including Israel's Attorney General that Israel's High Court will strike down the new law. If that happens Regavim recently clarified in a press statement that just like in the Nili case, "the State will have to pay out billions of shekels in compensation to all of those who have been harmed by the egregious move by the Civil Administration."

Regavim is therefore adamant that the Regulation Law should remain in place. Jewish landowners and their families who bought homes in good faith and with government support and lived there for years based on Albeck's findings shouldn't become homeless or lose millions of NIS of their property value because of these new blue lines.

The 60 members of Knesset who voted for the bill understood this, and the High Court should accept the ruling of the legislature, and allow the new law to remain intact.

The author is the international director for Regavim, a think-tank dedicated to researching land issues throughout Israel
