What defines a person?
In what way or ways is a human being different than an animal, other than being able to speak and walk on two feet? Scientists have classified man as Homo Sapiens, placing the entire uniqueness of man on intellect. There are, however, additional features that define a man/woman among which are:
1) A human being has the capacity to learn from history that he or she can read or learn.
2) A human being has the capacity to think about the purpose of his/her existence, and therefore decide to live or die.
3) A human being has the capacity to think about self-perfection and to improve his character
4) A human being has the capacity to make moral free choices, and not be dominated by biological drives
5) A human being has the capacity to contemplate the consequences of his actions.
To the degree that a person exercises these capacities, to that degree is he uniquely human. Dereliction in exercising these capacities detracts from a person definition as a full human being.
