Israel's pandemic exit strategy dubbed a 'catastrophe' by critics

Parents, businesses say Health Ministry's 9-stage exit plan won't work.

By Paul Shindman, World Israel News

The government's new nine-stage exit strategy to get Israel out from under a national coronavirus lockdown has been slammed Monday by the business and education sectors as a "catastrophe" that will bankrupt thousands of small businesses and adversely affect Israeli education.

The Health Ministry announced the plan Sunday evening that is geared at getting Israel's economy and shuttered education system back towards a new normal over the next five months. Each of the nine stages will take two weeks, but dependent on the continuing reduction in the coronavirus infection rate.

"There are preliminary signs of success. However, we need another few days to evaluate this. The exit will also be gradual, responsible and cautious," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. "We will open businesses of up to 10 people that do not receive the public and we will also open for toddlers but we will do this and other stages gradually and cautiously, with clear indicators for the transition from stage to stage."

The plan was immediately criticized by industry, parents and the education system for being unbalanced and having no economic support for businesses that were forced to stay closed.

"It is inconceivable that the country is giving up on an entire generation," Merom Schiff, chairman of the national parents union, told Ynet. "It is sad to see Israel has placed education at the bottom of priorities. Frontal studies should be opened in kindergartens and elementary schools in parallel with the reopening of workplaces, before the reopening of malls and resumption of flights."

Schiff said it made no sense to keep schools closed for grades four and up, while opening shopping malls and allowing travel abroad.

On Sunday, the Association of Commercial, Fashion and Catering Chains in Israel, which represents some 400 commercial chains with about 18,000 outlets, said despite the ongoing restrictions its members intend to open their businesses in a week in any case.

The chairman of the "Restaurateurs Strong Together" group, Tomer Mor, said forcing restaurant, pub and bar owners to remain closed until the end of November would drive hundreds of them out of business.

"This is a catastrophe," Mor said. "The end of November is basically the beginning of winter. Every day that passes is a debt that can't be repaid and the government must understand this."

"Restaurants must be reopened for takeaways and outdoor dining in the near future … otherwise, the 150,000 workers in this industry will continue to suffer economic damages, in addition to being unemployed for months," Mor said.

The Israel Hotels Association slammed the decision to open travel abroad while forcing Israeli hotels to remain closed.

"The hotels that managed to stay afloat have suffered a severe blow during the second closure," said association president Amir Haik. "There is no logical reason to allow Israelis to travel to hotels in Greece… and not to [Israeli] hotels operating according to the restrictions set and approved by the Israeli Health Ministry."

Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz admitted the government had gotten it wrong and said his own colleagues failed to listen.

"If they had done the quarantine in June or early July as I suggested, we would have been a green country," Steinitz told Kan Radio, but warned "we need to get out of the quarantine carefully, last time we opened too fast and got hit hard."

Former Likud MK and Temple Mount activist Yehudah Glick is planning to run for president of Israel, according to a report by the Hebrew-language news outlet Zman Yisrael.

Glick, who served as an MK from 2016 to 2019, is currently laying the groundwork for a presidential run in the Knesset, the report said.

The former MK reportedly lobbied a number of right-wing lawmakers to back his campaign.

The Knesset will vote for the next president in 2021, before the term of the incumbent president, Reuven Rivlin, ends next summer.

"Over Rosh Hashanah I sat with myself for two whole days and decided I will run for the job," Glick told the lawmakers, according to the report.

"I miss the days when we were a model society, a society of solidarity, when we strove to be a light unto the nations rather than fighting and hating one another."

Glick has refused to comment on the report.

Shocking Report: 75,000 in UK Could Die as Result of Increased Lockdown Orders

Jared Evan

Startling research, presented to the Government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) reveals that an additional 75,000 people could die from non-Covid causes as a result of lockdown, according to devastating official figures buried in a 188-page document The Daily Mail reported

The UK has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, while the death numbers remain extremely low, there has been talk of further lock-down restrictions

Primis Player Placeholder

The document reveals 16,000 people died as a result of the chaos in hospitals and care homes in March and April alone.

It estimates a further 26,000 will lose their lives within a year if people continue to stay away from emergency care and the problems in social care persist.

Daily Mail reported:

And an additional 31,900 could die over the next five years as a result of missed cancer diagnoses, cancelled operations and the health impacts of a recession.

However, the initial lock-down in UK saved lives, the report stressed:

That had nothing been done to stop the spread of the virus in March, 400,000 people could have died of Covid.

But they acknowledged the restrictions had significant unintended consequences.

The document said: 'We estimate changes to emergency care may account for 6,000 existing excess deaths in March and April 2020. If emergency care in hospitals continues to be low for a full 12 months, this could result in an additional 10,000 excess deaths.' It added: 'We estimate there were approximately 10,000 non-Covid-19 excess deaths of care home residents in March and April 2020... there could be an additional 16,000 non-Covid-19 excess deaths over 12 months in care home residents.'

Additionally 31,900 could die over the next five years as a result of missed cancer diagnoses, cancelled operations and the health impacts of a recession.

The toll of deaths directly linked to the virus last night stood at 41,936.

In other words the fear of going to the hospital has caused unnecessary deaths and this trend will amplify if the UK increases lock-down restrictions.

The numbers of cases vs deaths show in the UK show, that while there are record numbers of infections, which has risen in August and September, the deaths are extremely low.

These numbers should help Boris Johnson make a wiser decision s to increasing any furthur lock-down restrictions.

3 Licensed Providers Launch Israel's 5G Network Today

By David Israel - 11 Tishri 5781 – September 29, 2020

5G Everywhere

Israel's 5G network began operating on Tuesday for the customers of the provider's Partner, HOT Mobile, and Pelephone, who had won the frequency tender and met the conditions for receiving the license. Israel's other major provider, Cellcom, which is yet to complete the licensing process, will receive its license only in the next quarter.

5G is the fifth generation technology standard for cellular networks, which cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in 2019. It is the planned successor to the 4G networks which provide connectivity to most current cellphones. All 5G wireless devices in a cell are connected to the Internet and telephone network by radio waves through a local antenna in the cell. The main advantage of the new networks is that they have greater bandwidth, giving higher download speeds, eventually up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s).

It is expected that the new networks will not serve only cellphones, but also be used as general internet service providers for laptops and desktop computers, competing with existing providers, with new applications in the internet of things (IoT) and machine to machine areas. 4G cellphones are not able to use the new networks.

The increased speed is achieved partly by using higher-frequency radio waves than current cellular networks. But higher-frequency radio waves have a shorter range, so to ensure wide service, 5G networks operate on up to three frequency bands, low, medium, and high, and a 5G network is composed of networks of up to 3 different types of cells, each requiring different antennas, each type giving a different tradeoff of download speed vs. distance and service area. 5G cellphones and wireless devices will connect to the network through the highest speed antenna within range at their location.

The spectrum used by 5G could cause interference to satellite operations which impairs numerical weather prediction performance, with substantial economic and public safety impacts in areas such as commercial aviation. These concerns prompted U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine to urge the FCC in February 2019 to delay some spectrum auction proposals. Their plea was rejected.

The scientific consensus is that 5G technology is safe. But the approaching wide use of 5G technology has given rise to conspiracy theories suggesting it has an adverse effect on health. In 2019, 180 scientists from 36 countries wrote to the European Union requesting a pause on 5G rollout, because of their concerns about possible health risks. In April 2019, Brussels, Belgium blocked a 5G trial because of radiation laws. In Geneva, Switzerland, a planned upgrade to 5G was stopped for health concerns.

Several conspiracy theories circulating online claim there's a link between the spread of the coronavirus and 5G. There have been dozens of arsons of telecom masts in the Netherlands, Ireland, Cyprus, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Croatia, and Sweden.

On Tuesday morning, Israel's Ministry of Communications distributed the licenses to the winning companies in a ceremony on Zoom with Communications Minister Yoaz Handel, Ministry of Communications Director-General Liran Avishar Ben-Horin, members of the tender committee, and the CEOs of the winning companies.

The network has been available for some time, but the licensing will now allow the winning companies to sell access to their subscribers who own devices that support 5G.

The ministry has already awarded grants worth several hundred million shekels to the companies to encourage the enhanced distribution of the 5G network. But despite this hefty taxpayer support, the companies have not disclosed the map of their antennas' deployment – except for Pelephone CEO Ran Gurion, who has announced that he would consider publicizing the locations of his company's antennas. His company has published the list of 150 localities where there is at least one mobile site that supports 5G generation phones. They include Tel Aviv, Eilat, Arara, BS, Yeruham, Dimona, KS, Afula, Ginosar, Haifa and the Krayot, Herzliya, Jerusalem, and Hadera.

The three licensed companies in Israel have already started offering fifth generation consumer plans and selling devices. Pelephone is selling Wavy Router 5G and Shiomi Mi 10 and Foucault F2 Pro for NIS 1,899-2,999 ($548 – 866), including free delivery.

The Ministry of Communications announced that they would support local startups that would offer solutions using the 5th generation platform.

Over 6000 Scientists, Doctors Sign Anti-lockdown Petition

by Steve Watson

October 7th 2020,

Calls for only 'focused protection' of vulnerable people from COVID so everyone else can build herd immunity

Over six thousand scientists and doctors have signed a petition against coronavirus lockdown measures, urging that those not in the at-risk category should be able to get on with their lives as normal, and that lockdown rules in both the US and UK are causing 'irreparable damage'.

Those who have signed include professors from the world's leading universities. Oxford University professor Dr Sunetra Gupta was one of the authors of the open letter that was sent with the petition, along with Harvard University's Dr Martin Kulldorff and Stanford's Dr Jay Bhattacharya.

It declares that social distancing and mask mandates are causing 'damaging physical and mental health impacts.'

The petition, dubbed the Great Barrington Declaration after the town in Massachusetts where it was written, has been signed by close to 54,000 members of the public at time of writing, as well as over 2600 medical and public health scientists and around 3500 medical practitioners.

"Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal," it notes, adding "Keeping these [lockdown] measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed."

"Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health," the declaration also declares.

It continues, "The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular [heart] disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden."

"Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice," the declaration adds.

"Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal, it concludes, explaining that "Simple hygiene measures, such as hand washing and staying home when sick should be practiced by everyone to reduce the herd immunity threshold."

"Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home," it emphasises.

Finally, the declaration demands that normal life should resume, stating that "Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity."

Alex Jones breaks down Trump fighting back against the authoritarian lockdown of the left cowering in fear from Covid.

The declaration echoes President Trump's words earlier this week when he returned to the White House and asked Americans not to live in fear or let let the virus dominate their everyday lives:

The declaration dovetails with other research that has concluded lockdowns will conservatively "destroy at least seven times more years of human life" than they save.

Germany's Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Muller, has warned that lockdown measures throughout the globe will end up killing more people than the Coronavirus itself.

In an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Muller warned that the response to the global pandemic has resulted in "one of the biggest" hunger and poverty crises in history.

Muller's comments come five months after a leaked study from inside the German Ministry of the Interior revealed that the impact of the country's lockdown could end up killing more people than the coronavirus due to victims of other serious illnesses not receiving treatment.

As we have previously highlighted, in the UK there have already been up to 10,000 excess deaths as a result of seriously ill people avoiding hospitals due to COVID-19 or not having their hospital treatments cancelled.

Professor Richard Sullivan also warned that there will be more excess cancer deaths in the UK than total coronavirus deaths due to people's access to screenings and treatment being restricted as a result of the lockdown.

His comments were echoed by Peter Nilsson, a Swedish professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at Lund University, who said, "It's so important to understand that the deaths of COVID-19 will be far less than the deaths caused by societal lockdown when the economy is ruined."

According to Professor Karol Sikora, an NHS consultant oncologist, there could be 50,000 excess deaths from cancer as a result of routine screenings being suspended during the lockdown in the UK.

In addition, a study published in The Lancet that notes "physical distancing, school closures, trade restrictions, and country lockdowns" are worsening global child malnutrition.

Experts have also warned that there will be 1.4 million deaths globally from untreated TB infections due to the lockdown.

As we further previously highlighted, a data analyst consortium in South Africa found that the economic consequences of the country's lockdown will lead to 29 times more people dying than the coronavirus itself.

Hundreds of doctors are also on record as opposing lockdown measures, warning that they will cause more death than the coronavirus itself.

Despite citizens across the world being told to observe the lockdown to "save lives," numerous experts who are now warning that the lockdown could end up costing more lives are being ignored or smeared by the media.
