Hello to all my friends, my community, the Ohel Nechama community,

My heart broke again on Saturday night when I read that another righteous soldier, Dan Weidenbaum the 14th, had been killed.

Although I did not know him, we are one family, and every soul is a whole world. We must not get used to it, and console ourselves and say, God only one soldier was killed.

The Gemara in tractate Baba Batra (10:2) teaches that when Rabbi Yosef returned from the upper world, he said that he heard it said about the slayers of the kingdom, that not all of her creatures could stand between them because of their holiness.

These things are all the more true about the holy soldiers who were killed for the sake of saving the nation of Israel. And also for all Israel who were killed for the sanctification of God.

The Yerushalmi in tractate Yoma (1:1) teaches that the death of righteous people atones for Israel. God bless us with righteous and special soldiers who give their lives so that we can live here in the Land of Israel.

The Talmud there mentions the death of these tzaddiks, for atonement on Yom Kippur.

Therefore, we are actually standing in this period on Yom Kippur. As on Yom Kippur, we need:

mess with our actions
To love others more and respect them more than usual
learn more
Fix everything possible.

Death was swallowed up forever and the Lord God wiped a tear from every face (Isaiah 2:8).

May we receive good tidings, salvation and consolation for all the House of Israel!

The Three Musketeers at the Kotel

The Three are Rabbi Yehuda Glick, famous temple mount activist, and former Israel Mk, and then Robert Weinger, the world's greatest shofar blower and seller of Shofars, and myself after we had gone to the 12 gates of the Temple Mount in 2020 to blow the shofar to ask G-d to heal the world from the Pandemic. It was a highlight to my experience in living in Israel and I put it on my blog each day to remember.

The articles that I include each day are those that I find interesting, so I feel you will find them interesting as well. I don't always agree with all the points of each article but found them interesting or important to share with you, my readers, and friends. It is cathartic for me to share my thoughts and frustrations with you about life in general and in Israel. As a Rabbi, I try to teach and share the Torah of the G-d of Israel as a modern Orthodox Rabbi. I never intend to offend anyone but sometimes people are offended and I apologize in advance for any mistakes. The most important psychological principle I have learned is that once someone's mind is made up, they don't want to be bothered with the facts, so, like Rabbi Akiva, I drip water (Torah is compared to water) on their made-up minds and hope that some of what I have share sinks in. This article describes in detail the goals of Hamas, in what way these goals are different from other radical Islamic groups, and why its ideas are so attractive to many Muslims. In contrast to many other articles, it looks at the end of the world aspects of the struggles of radical Islam, including those of Hamas. It describes how radical Islam answers some of the existential problems of Islam, and also the compromise that Muslims make when they share religious space with Judaism and Christianity. Finally, it makes the points that it is unlikely that we Jews will be able to change the beliefs of Muslims, but it is imperative that we point out the religious aspects of the war in Gaza to young, progressive non-Jewish and Jewish students and show them that this war has nothing to do with the political rights of the Palestinians and their efforts to escape so-called oppression. This is not an impossible task, since much of the support these youngsters provide to the Palestinian cause is based on ignorance.
