Acquiring a home in Israel is a test for a Jew. G-d is directly involved in your ability to live in the land of Israel. In my first incarnation here I was in Yeshiva here for 5 years, but I did not walk the talk, and G-d threw me out of the land. I yearned to come back and with G-d's help I did enough chuva to merit making aliya 10 years ago in December. For the last 7 years I had a very comfortable home right in the center of all the learning going on in Jerusalem. Alas, all good things come to an end and the building was undergoing a Tama renovation and we had to move, which we did to a new apartment for us (its an old building) where I was promised a four year lease after almost a year of looking for a new place. Last night my wife and I slept in out new place for the first time after a very stressful move. Lahaim!

The Three Musketeers at the Kotel

The Three are Rabbi Yehuda Glick, famous temple mount activist, and former Israel Mk, and then Robert Weinger, the world's greatest shofar blower and seller of Shofars, and myself after we had gone to the 12 gates of the Temple Mount in 2020 to blow the shofar to ask G-d to heal the world from the Pandemic. It was a highlight to my experience in living in Israel and I put it on my blog each day to remember.

The articles that I include each day are those that I find interesting, so I feel you will find them interesting as well. I don't always agree with all the points of each article but found them interesting or important to share with you, my readers, and friends. It is cathartic for me to share my thoughts and frustrations with you about life in general and in Israel. As a Rabbi, I try to teach and share the Torah of the G-d of Israel as a modern Orthodox Rabbi. I never intend to offend anyone but sometimes people are offended and I apologize in advance for any mistakes. The most important psychological principle I have learned is that once someone's mind is made up, they don't want to be bothered with the facts, so, like Rabbi Akiva, I drip water (Torah is compared to water) on their made-up minds and hope that some of what I have share sinks in. The Portion of Va'era

When Does the Period of Four Hundred Years as promised in the Covenant of the Pieces ("Brit Bein Habetarim") Conclude

The exile in Egypt is mentioned in the Torah for the first time in the Covenant of the Pieces: "For your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land and they will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years" (Genesis 15;13).

The Children of Israel ask themselves if the four hundred years have already concluded.

They hear the message of Moses: "And I will redeem them with an outstretched arm…" (Exodus 6;6).

And their response: "And they didn't listen to Moses because of their shortness of breath and their hard labor" (Exodus 6;9). The Children of Israel are fearful that G-d's promise to Abraham of four hundred years may not have yet concluded.

This is alluded to in the additions to the letters "reish" in the words "kotzer" (shortness) and "ruach" (breath). The numerical value of the letter "reish" equals two hundred. The two letters "reish" therefore equal four hundred. (Taken from a collection of gematriot of Rebbe Moshe Hadarshan)
