Where Is My Grandchild?

People Who Make You Feel Good About Yourself

There are people who consistently make others feel good about themselves. When you are in the presence of someone who has a "good eye" and a "good heart," you see yourself in a more positive light. Such a person treats you with respect and makes it easier for you to increase your own level of self-respect. Such a person says and does things that bring out the best in you.

Remember how you felt about yourself after encounters with such people. Let those experiences build your self-image. Don't just look at it as, "I felt really good about myself when I spoke to this person." Rather, view these encounters as life-enhancing experiences that permanently build your self-image. Even many years later, you can allow these encounters to raise your view of yourself.

My friend Chuck Hoffman was a person like that. Even though he passed away 10 years ago, I still remember the good times we would have together when we would sit at Padres baseball game and solve the problems of the world.

Where is my Grandchild?

Question:

When I was a kid, I went to Hebrew school and learned the Hebrew letters and the vowels. But when it came time for my bar mitzvah and I started learning to read the Torah, I noticed that there aren't actually any vowels in the Torah, and I had to memorize the pronunciation of every word. Why is that? Is it just to make it super-hard to become a Jewish adult?

Reply:

The truth is that while there are no vowels actually written in the Torah, it is not accurate to say that the Torah has no vowels. Although the vowels, or nekudot, were never actually marked in the Torah itself, the nekudot are of divine origin just as the letters are. The nekudot were given by G‑d to Moses on Mount Sinai and were passed down orally from leader to leader as part of the Oral Torah, until they reached Ezra the Scribe, who revealed and taught them to the Jewish nation. Up until that point, Hebrew was never written down with vowels.1

As with many early Semitic alphabets, one who is fluent in Hebrew can, for the most part, read it without vowels, which is why even nowadays the overwhelming majority of Hebrew literature is written without vowels.

On a simple level, the reason for this is because, unlike English, most Hebrew words are comprised of triconsonantal roots. Words with the same consonants are usually related, and differ only in how they're inflected for tense and so forth.

At the same time, there are also many words in the Torah whose meanings can change based on the vowels. And it is for this reason that an oral tradition was needed to tell us exactly how the words are to be pronounced.

One classic example is the prohibition of eating milk and meat together, which is derived from the verse לֹא תְבַשֵּׁל גְּדִי בַּחֲלֵב אִמּוֹ—universally translated as "You shall not cook a kid in its mother's milk."2 Now, the Hebrew word for "milk," חֲלֵב (chaleiv) or חָלָב (chalav), has the exact same letters as the Hebrew word for "fat," חֵלֶב (cheilev), the only difference being the vowels. So without the Oral Torah, we might mistakenly believe that we are prohibited to eat meat with fat.3

This, of course, leads us back to our original question: If there are ambiguous words, why leave the vowels to the Oral Torah? Why not have them written in the Torah itself?

The Power of Ambiguity

The rabbis explain that it is precisely because of this possible ambiguity that the vowels aren't written into the actual text. The ambiguity allows us to derive multiple layers of meaning from the same written text.4 For example, by contrasting the way in which a word is actually vocalized (called in the Talmud mikra) with other possible ways of pronouncing the same word (called masoret), the rabbis derive many laws of the Torah. For G‑d's wisdom (a.k.a. His Torah) is infinite, and upon rearranging the vowels, new dimensions are revealed.

It is no wonder then that the letters are compared to the body and the nekudot to the soul.5 Like the body, the letters are tangible and physical. But the nekudot, while hidden, are what give them life.

Why did you kill only the men?" To which Joab replied that the Torah explicitly states: "Timcheh et zachar (זָכָר) Amalek—you shall destroy the males (zachar) of Amalek."

King David replied, "You have read the word with the wrong vowels (nekudot). It is not זָכָר, zachar, but זֵכֶר, zeicher, which means the 'remembrance' [of every member of Amalek]." 4. Jewish Woman Loses Gun for 'Praying on Temple Mount'

In midst of terror wave and as mayor calls to bear arms, Old City resident has gun taken over police claim unrelated to her handgun.
By Ido Ben-Porat First Publish: 10/12/2015, 11:16 AM
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/201753#.VhuF1uyqqko

In the middle of an Arab terror wave centered around Jerusalem's Old City, a 55-year-old female Jewish resident of the restive area has had her license to carry a handgun removed by the Internal Security Ministry.

The reason given for removing her means of self-defense? According to the ministry, police claim she "prayed on the Temple Mount," the holiest site in Judaism.

The woman, Feiga Tavnes, has lived in the Old City for the past 35 years. For all of those 35 years she has held a license to carry a firearm and owned a personal handgun, and in all those years she has never been investigated or run afoul of the law.

However, specifically now as Arab terror attacks have ramped up in the area around her home, she was ordered to hand over her gun.

The reason given in the letter asking her to do so was simply "a recommendation of the Israel police for...praying on the Temple Mount, and therefore due to the danger it is recommended to cancel her license."

Making the incident all the more surprising is the fact that Tavnes has never been investigated by the police for praying on the Temple Mount, which even if she had been would not constitute a legal grounds to remove her gun license.

The Jordanian Waqf has been left in de facto control of the Mount, where it has banned Jewish prayer despite Israeli laws and court rulings stipulating freedom of worship.

Adding to the seriousness of the move to negate her license is the fact that Tavnes's husband previously was stabbed by an Arab terrorist right by their house. The move also comes after Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat called on all license-holding Jerusalemites to carry their weapons at all times.

"Abandonment of Jews"

Attorney Adi Kedar of the Honenu legal aid organization submitted an urgent petition last week to the Internal Security Ministry, demanding that the decision be overturned and Tavnes's weapon be returned.

"The recommendation of the Israel police lacks any basis and is mistaken," wrote Kedar, demanding that he be immediately given the details of the police source that recommended canceling the woman's gun license so as to sue them for harassment.

"My client was not investigated for prayer on the Temple Mount, and even if there was a suspicion of that, that is not a suspicion at all connected to her gun license," noted the attorney.

"This shocking case of abandoning Jews in such a difficult period is just the tip of the iceberg, and reveals the continued management of the Israel police and the Internal Security Ministry in my cases over recent years, in which the weapons licenses of residents of Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem residents was revoked."

"In similar cases petitions were submitted to the court and the petitions were accepted, but the time dealing with the case and the bureaucracy leaves the civilians for an extended period - sometimes even over a year - without a weapon, posing a danger to them and to their family members," said Kedar.

The attorney added, "we must remember that we are dealing with civilian residents of Judea and Samaria of neighborhoods in Jerusalem, who unfortunately are exposed to daily terror attacks. I call on the prime minister and the appointed minister to re-examine the entire management of the Internal Security Ministry in terms of weapons licenses. I hope that until then lives will not be endangered G-d forbid due to this management." ________________________________________

Is it Ethical to Kill a Terrorist?

Moshe-Feiglin-022213

"We have become like Sodom and Gemorrah," the judge lamented when referring to the hard kick the Arab woman terrorist received from a Jewish bystander after an attempted stabbing. The judge's assessment was right, but from the other side of the coin. It is the judge who represents the Sodom mentality; thinking that turns values inside out, rendering good – bad and bad – good. The Jew who kicked that Arab terrorist still has moral clarity; it is the judge who is stricken with Sodom mentality.

Clearly, not all the Arabs are murderers. There are very good people among them, some of them personal friends of mine. I believe that many of them – perhaps even the majority – feel very badly about the wave of Arab murderousness enveloping us right now. But that does not change the fact that we are currently in a war. Arabs in the Land of Israel (from both sides of the Green Line) backed up by determined and dominating religious and political leadership have declared that the lives of Jews are worth nothing. Not only have they made declarations – they carry them out, as well.

This is not a criminal conflict in which, as soon as the intruder is neutralized, it is clear that the court – and not the victim – must determine his sentence. Not at all. This is a war that was declared against all the Jews simply because they are Jews. And in a war, you do not fire at the enemy soldier only after he fires at you; you try to shoot first.

In this war, however, the situation is much more serious. As we are dealing with total de-legitimization of the very right of Jews to live, there is only one way to stop the trend and to make it non-legitimate and unacceptable to murder a Jew. Israel must clarify with actions (not with words) that in the face of the widespread terror, all the rules have changed. Whoever raises a knife over a Jew in the Land of Israel will be the one to lose his privilege to breathe air on the globe – and should be killed on the spot – without any doubt.

When Netanyahu began to explain that Abu Mazen lied and that the young Arab murderer was alive and breathing in a modern Israeli hospital – the PM proved how much he lacks understanding of the threat. Once again, he has caused severe strategic damage. Does anybody in the world really care if Abu Mazen is telling the truth or lying? After all, when Netanyahu fell into the trap, celebrating the fact that Abu Mazen had lied, he himself endorsed the claim that the elimination of a terrorist is tantamount to murder.

An Israeli leader should have said the following:

"As usual, Abu Mazen lied. The boy in question is alive. Nevertheless, I would like to clarify: The Nation of Israel did not establish its own state just three years after Auschwitz in order to once again be slaughtered in the streets. Anybody in our Land who raises a knife against a Jew has lost his humanity and the right to continue to live."

Clearly, Netanyahu is doing just the opposite and a whole trail of confused people has followed in his footsteps.

The result, of course, will be that the lives of the murderers will be worth their weight in gold, while police officers and civilians who were the intended victims will be severely punished. And Jewish blood will continue to be cheap.

Self-Conscious About Praise

Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak, the Chozeh of Lublin, once praised someone in the presence of other people, and the person's face turned red. The rabbi told him, "You have not yet reached the proper level. Work on yourself to react to praise and insults in the same manner. Try to rise above caring whether someone praises or insults you. You are still too self-conscious about being praised."

Love Yehuda Lave

based on Twerski on Chumash by Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, M.D.

The Torah states, "And he (Avraham) trusted in God, and God reckoned it to him as righteousness" (Gen. 15:6). Why was Avraham's trust in God considered to be righteousness? If God spoke to any of us, would we not have an unshakable faith? We do not have faith that there is a moon or that two plus two equals four. That which we see or understand does not require an act of faith.

The answer was given by Rabbi Mordechai of Lechovitz, who cited the Talmud that on a person's Judgment Day he will be asked, "Did you transact in faith?" (Talmud Bavli, Shabbos 31a). This is usually understood as asking whether one transacted business honestly.

Rabbi Mordechai said that is has an additional meaning. When a person transacts in business, he negotiates and tries in every way to maximize his profit. He does not settle for a meager gain. This is what one will be asked on Judgment Day: "Did you transact in faith? i.e., did you do everything possible to maximize your faith, or did you just accept whatever you were given?

Abraham transacted in faith. He, of course, knew there was a God. He did not have to have faith in His existence. However, he tried to strengthen his faith by coming to an ever greater knowledge of God, and believing even that which they could not see about God.

Some people take their faith in God for granted. Of course they believe that there is a God. However, they may not have gone beyond that to try to know more and more about God. We have great works available to us to increase our knowledge and therefore our faith and understanding of God. If we fail to do so, we will have no answer on Judgment Day when we are asked, "Did you seek to improve the quality of your faith? Did you transact in faith?"

An old children's tale (which ended with "A man may work from sun to sun but a woman's work is never done.") only this time around, with a twist! Very good.

A man was sick and tired
of going to work every day
while his wife stayed home.
He wanted her to see what he went
through so he prayed:

'Dear Lord:
I go to work every day and put
in 8 hours while my wife
merely stays at home.
I want her to know what
I go through.
So, please allow her body to
switch with mine for a day.'

God, in his infinite wisdom,
granted the man's wish.

The next morning, sure enough,
the man awoke as a woman...
He arose, cooked breakfast
for his mate,
Awakened the kids,

Set out their school clothes,
Fed them breakfast,
Packed their lunches,
Drove them to school,
Came home and picked
up the dry cleaning,
Took it to the cleaners!
And stopped at the bank

to make a deposit.

Went grocery shopping,
Then drove home to put

away the groceries.

Paid the bills and balanced
the check book.
He cleaned the cat's litter box
and bathed the dog.

Then, it was already 1 P.M

And he hurried to make the beds,
Do the laundry, vacuum,
Dust, And sweep and mop
the kitchen floor.

Ran to the school to pick up

the kids and got into an argument
with them on the way home.
Set out milk and cookies and
got the kids organized to do
their homework.

Then, set up the ironing board

and watched TV while he
did the ironing.
At 4:30 he began peeling
potatoes and washing
vegetables for salad,
breaded the pork chops
and snapped
fresh beans for supper.

After supper,
He cleaned the kitchen,

Ran the dishwasher,
Folded laundry,
Bathed the kids, And put
them to bed.

At 9 P.M. he was exhausted

and, though his daily chores
weren't finished, he went to
bed where he was expected to
make love, which he managed
to get through without complaint.

The next morning, he awoke
and immediately knelt by the

bed and said:

Lord, I don't know what
I was thinking.
I was so wrong to envy my
wife's being able to stay
home all day. l
Please!  Oh, Please!
Let us trade back.. Amen!'

The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:

'My son, I feel you have
learned your lesson and
I will be happy to change
things back to the way
they were.
You'll just have to wait
nine months, though.
You got pregnant last night.'

The Stabbings in Israel

The Stabbings in Israel

Calling evil by its rightful name.

by

My pain at the ongoing news of stabbings and murders of innocents in Israel reached an unbearable level when I learned that a member of our family, Rabbi Yeshayahu Krishevsky, 60, was mown down and brutally butchered with a meat cleaver in Geula, Jerusalem.

He was but one of many who were heartlessly massacred or critically wounded. It is the new reality of Israel – civilians living in fear of their lives for the sole crime of being Jewish. To add yet another element to the tragedy, if fortunate enough to slay the attackers the intended victims are then condemned by the media for the sin of defending themselves with "inappropriate force."

It seems the one thing the world will never permit the Jews, perhaps as a manifestation of unacknowledged guilt in the aftermath of the Holocaust, is to allow them once again to be identified as victims. That is why the most obscene acts of barbarity we are witnessing today perpetrated against Israelis must be explained. Explained in a way that is able to rationalize the murder of parents in the presence of their children, leaving them orphans. Explained so that axing Jews to death while wrapped in their prayer shawls praying to a universal God of love will be understood. Explained so that those who teach their young children to murder are really the victims and those who carry out killings are courageous heroes fulfilling the ideals of a justifiable cause.

Here lies the most terrible sin of all in these varied attempts to describe the events tearing apart the fabric of enlightened society in the very land of the Bible which long ago marked the cradle of civilization. To explain is to begin to excuse – to exculpate. To displace guilt from evil act to seemingly rational motive. To offer reason for the unreasonable – a step down the path to Spinoza's famous maxim that "To understand all is to forgive all."

We need to understand, says our Secretary of State, more in sympathy with the offenders than the victims. With supposed objectivity, he announces that "We refuse to point fingers at the guilty party." There is a mutual cycle of violence, the "wise" pundits tell us. It is the occupation, and the settlers, and the apartheid system, and the lack of opportunities for the Arabs, and the cruelty and insensitivity of the Israelis, and so many other justifications for "moderate" Palestinian President Abbas to proclaim, "We bless every drop of blood spilled for Jerusalem, which is clean and pure blood, blood spilled for Allah" and to openly incite acts of terrorism and violence.

The Muslim world repeatedly holds up murderers of innocent civilians as heroes, as the West refuse to brand evil as evil.

Giving the lie to these rationalizations are the background stories which failed to gain prominent mention. Isra Abed, 30, an Israeli-Arab divorcee with a young child living with her parents in Nazareth, took a large knife, traveled to the central bus station in the northern town of Afula, and tried to stab Jews. Not too long ago, Abed graduated from the Technion, one of the world's finest institutions of higher learning, which she attended on scholarship. With her prestigious degree she was able to join the Israeli workforce, where a Technion grad's average monthly salary is much higher than the average wage in the local economy. What motivated her? Was she too a victim of apartheid? Was it the despair of an occupied people granted no privileges who had no opportunity for education to better their lot?

Have you seen the picture of Hassan Manasra, the young Arab teenager who stabbed and critically wounded an Israeli boy who was riding his bicycle in Pisgat Zeev? Hassan , who President Abbas claimed was cruelly executed for no reason in an incendiary speech to his people, is resting comfortably in a bed in Hadassah hospital. He is alive and well, provided with free food as well as the best medical care – as are all terrorists who managed to survive their murderous killing sprees.

The Muslim world repeatedly holds up murderers of innocent civilians as heroes, names streets and parks after them, and portrays them as revered role models for their children. And we in the West refuse to brand evil as evil.

Has our infatuation with moral relativism brought us so low that we can no longer recognize pure evil and call it by its rightful name? When innocents are routinely murdered and I grieve for my family's loss, it's time for the supposedly civilized world to identify it as crime and demand its unequivocal end. There are moments when it is much more important to denounce than to seek supposed reasons to justify barbarism.

Rabbi Sherki: Dealing with Terrorism by Learning More Torah? Nonsense, Learn Krav Maga

Rabbi Uri Sherki

The spiritual leader of the Beit Yehudah community in Jerusalem, Rabbi and philosopher Uri Sherki (Cherki), a member of the religious Zionist Machon Meir organization, rejects the calls to bolster the study of Torah during this time of terrorist attacks in Israel. Instead he insists that at this time we must become stronger at hand to hand combat and self-defense, Srugim reported Monday.

During a class Rabbi Sherki was teaching about recent events, he said, "There are attacks, and then they say, gentlemen, we must strengthen our study of Torah, our charity, our prayer. Utter nonsense! (the Hebrew term he used was Shtuyot B'mitz agvaniyot — nonsense in tomato sauce). How is this related to the attacks? If there are attacks, we should be strengthened in Krav Maga, in self-defense and in imposing Israeli sovereignty [in Judea and Samaria]."

Rabbi's Sherki's son, Yochai Shalom Sherki was murdered by Arab terrorists on April 15th this year, when an Arab terrorist drove into him and Shira Klein as they waited at a Jerusalem bus stop.

Known for his habitual thinking outside the box, Rabbi Sherki added that "there is dejection. What is the source of this dejection? That we don't pore over the overall significance of the Torah. We're seeing a lot of people who learn Torah, and they have no satisfaction! Torah is not reviving them. Why? Because [their Torah] is not whole. It's not meeting all needs of the soul. It is limited to highly technical and detailed pilpul-Talmudic rhetoric, and does not deal with the overall scope, the meaning of that Torah."

"The spiritual thing that's missing here is courage. There is no courage, so we get this agony. Courage is something spiritual. And when you deal with small-minded Torah and suffering comes, you are slack-handed and can't solves the problem."

"Instead of organizing a public prayer, demonstrate!" Rabbi Shaerki continued to surprise his students. "It's more serious, it's a real answer. It is true Tshuva-repent. Don't hide behind slack-handed religious activity, which has nothing to do with what's happening."

Rabbi Sherki clarified that "it is obvious that we must always strengthen the study of Torah and fear of Heaven, but it's beside the point."

Rabbi Sherki went on to say that "someone told me there is a great virtue: when there are attacks, recite the sacred incense passage [in the prayer book]. Utter silliness! The incense passage was recited at the time of a pandemic, that's brought by Rabbi Isaac Luria (the ARI zl). During Rabbi Luria's time they did not know how to handle an epidemic, there was no antibiotics, so at least they recited the incense passage. But when it's something that's in your power to do, what's the point in your reciting the incense passage? Bring on the medicine."

Next Saturday night is the Yarseit or Rabbi Meir Kahane who has been proved right by time. On his Yarseit we should all ask for his forgiveness and ask G-d to send us the Messiah who can get us out of this mess.

US Spied on Israel, Prepared to Destroy Israeli Bombers to Protect Iran

US moved carriers into the region to prevent Israeli craft from attacking suspected Iranian nuclear plant.

In an explosive report we learn that ever since 2012, the United States has been spying on Israel in order to prevent the Jewish State from attacking suspected Iranian nuclear sites, according to Friday's Wall Street Journal.

The White House had sent an additional aircraft carrier to the region after learning that Israeli aircraft had flown into Iranian airspace in what U.S. officials feared was a test run for an attack on Iran's Fordow plant. The carriers had attack aircraft on board prepared to respond to any Israeli attack on Iran.

If that wasn't enough to strain the conceit that the U.S. is Israel's strongest supporter, U.S. officials also revealed to the Journal that Israel was responsible for the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists.

Several U.S. officials also claimed that Israel wanted to strike Iran in 2012, and that the United States pressured Israeli officials into retreating.

The U.S. attempted to keep its nuclear power negotiations with Iran concealed from Israel because of disagreements over the extent to which Iran should be permitted to pursue a nuclear program. Israel took the position that because Iran has an abundance of energy resources, it had no peaceful purposes for its nuclear program.

Largest Salt Flat in the World...and 8 ways to calm children down during violence

Cut Worrying Down to Size

Rabbi Leib Dimiles, a wealthy businessman, was also a righteous Torah scholar. Upon receiving news that all his money was lost, he calmly returned to his studies. His wife was shocked: "How can you remain calm in the face of such misfortune?"

Rabbi Leib replied, "Fortunately I have a very quick mind. The amount of worrying that would take someone else a year, I can worry about in a few seconds."

And of course the famous joke. A guy says to another, "I will give you $1,000 to do my worrying for me". Ok, says the other, "Where is the $1,000?". The reply, "That's your first worry."

8 ways to calm children during the wave of violence

Parents must allow their children express their fears, and speak openly with them; From not being afraid of fear to sharing ways you yourself coped with such tensions in the past, here are some helpful tips.

Ravit Gutman

Published: 10.13.15, 00:12 / Israel News

We have once again entered a period of stressful and difficult feelings. Every stabbing pierces freedom of movement and action. Our children, especially adolescent ones, feel a sense of helplessness. They are being robbed of their freedom.

  •

Our cellphones warn us about every new incident, we talk to our colleagues, in line at the supermarket, and with the delivery guy - "So have you heard? Another one."

We calm tensions by interacting with strangers. All Israelis are friends in these times.

But we are also parents. Our parental role only intensifies at these moments.

The wave of targeted attacks have caught children and adolescents off guard. Sirens still echo in their ears occasionally when a motorcycle passes from far away. It's only a motorcycle, we tell them to calm them down. Another painful reminder of Operation Protective Edge.

If during Operative Protective Edge we said that the Iron Dome anti-missile system was the great consolation of the 2000s, what will we tell them today? What might allay their fears? Calm their anxiety? How can we answer their question: What are the chances the next stabbing gets to us?

8 tips to calm children:

1. Do not be afraid of fear

If our children were not worried or afraid, we could think that something is not right. After all, a school test makes their heart beat faster, so a fear of targeted and unexpected attacks definitely makes sense. And therefore we need to tell the child: "It's okay to be afraid, it is natural and logical."

2. There is something to fear

When we tell a child "you have nothing to be afraid of," he or she could feel lonely misunderstood. That feeling in itself may be a cause of concern and anxiety.

3. No promises without foundation

You should avoid promises without a firm foundation, such as "there is no chance it will happen here," can any one of us guarantee that? Or saying "do not worry, it is far from us." If we are wrong and lose credibility, how will the kids learn to trust us?

4. Talk, talk, talk

Everyone has different ways of coping with worries. There are those who do not stop asking questions and it is important for them to listen to the news often and all they want is to understand more and speak more. Our way of coping helps us overcome paralysis. Let them express themselves. Do not shush them.

5. What they don't know can't hurt them - really?

We can choose not to expose our children inside the home, but they will be exposed to it outside, from friends, from school and from the omnipresent digital devices. It is better for them to hear of it from us, in a controlled manner.

6. Shared reading or watching of the news

Watching the news together accompanied by explanations transmits that we are all in the same boat. Togetherness is stronger than being alone.

7. Try to get into their shoes

This is important, especially as the youth in this period of their lives are testing their independence, freedom of movement and are concentrated on themselves and their needs. A sense of lack of control and the idea of a surprise targeted attack reduces these.

Teenagers are flooding WhatsApp with statements that express great concern. They are afraid to take their familiar train or bus to their regular activities. Your teenagers need you just as much as your small children do.

They need to hear that it is important to maintain routine, that together it is possible to think about how they can get around safely – by bicycle instead of by bus, a parents' car pool, alertness, looking up from their cellphone while walking down the street or waiting at the station and other ideas that may help them cope and increase their sense of control of their lives.

Tell them about yourself when you were their age, at the time of terrible attacks: How you dealt with them, what you thought about the situation and what was then necessary for you and helped you to overcome your fears.

This place sounds like an intriguing place to visit.
But, alas, I'm on a salt-free diet!!

If you are looking for an exotic place to visit?...
The Largest Salt Flat in the World

The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi) and it's a major tourist destination in the South American country of Bolivia.  The Salar is virtually devoid of any wildlife or vegetation, but it is home to an estimated 10 billion tons of salt.

But what is no less incredible, is where people who visit this amazing place stay, and how does one build something in the middle of the vast emptiness?
The answer is quite remarkable.

Palacio de Sal
Anyone arriving to visit this exotic part of the world is in for a real treat anda stay in one of the world's most unique hotel experiences. Due to a lack of conventional construction materials in this area, many of the hotels here are built entirely with salt blocks cut  most famous one is called Palacio de Sal, Spanish for "Palace of salt".

The salt flats are so white and clear they often show a perfect reflection of the sky and the objects above them. In fact, because the Salar is so flat and has such a strong reflection, similar to that of ice sheets, it is used for calibrating the distance measurement equipment of satellites in space!
The white, endless flats also offer visitors a unique opportunity to take sometruly mind-bending pictures. With no other objects in sight, the human eye loses its ability to establish a proper field of depth.  The results are some of the most creative and bizarre pictures you will ever see…

The Salar is truly a place like no other, a magical kingdom of salt and beauty where one can drive on the endless flats and see the sky both above and below him.  It is just one of many places on earth that prove that beauty has no rules.

Speaking of Violence here is a little piece from someone on our side:

Dear Arabs

Dear Arabs,

The truth is we aren't writing this for you, because you probably aren't listening. But these things need to be said.

We are not going to lecture you about how the Jewish people are the original inhabitants of the land and you are newcomers, colonialists even. All that is true, but we don't want to argue theoretically. We want to talk tachlis (you've been here long enough to know what that means).

You have been sold a false bill of goods by your leaders, who have grown fat over the years by maintaining the fiction that you are going to throw us out of the Land of Israel. They've been handsomely paid by anti-Zionists everywhere, from Hitler to the KGB to the Saudis to the Iranian regime to George Soros to the EU to Barack Obama.

You are not going to throw us out.

First of all, there are more of us. There is an absolute majority of Jews living between the Jordan and the Mediterranean, even if we use your inflated population figures and even if we count Gaza. We are not the French colonists in Algeria or the Crusaders. Our birthrate is high and increasing, and yours is decreasing. Jews are moving here from the rest of the world, and Arabs are leaving.

Second, there is no place for us to go. The roughly 50% of our population that is descended from Jewish refugees from Arab countries are not going back to Syria, Iraq, Egypt, etc. (so much, by the way, for calling us 'European colonialists'). Ethiopian Jews can't go back to Ethiopia. And nobody else is going anywhere.

Third, we have a deep religious connection to the land. Our bible is a story about the relationship between God, the Jewish people, and the Land of Israel. The har habayit is the location of our holy temples, and our patriarchs are buried here (even if you set fire to their tombs). Don't tell me about Mohammed's horse.

Fourth (and this is important, pay attention), if you try to hurt us, you are going to die. This isn't the way we want to be, but this is what necessity demands. This is what we have finally learned from our history.

Think for yourselves for once. Don't listen to Mahmoud Abbas, Ismail Haniyeh or Raed Saleh. Especially don't trust the Jewish traitors like those who write in Ha'aretz or who are on the payroll of Soros, Obama or the EU. They care even less for Arabs than your billionaire leaders do.

Before you take a knife or an ax and go out to kill a Jew, think about this: you will die and it won't bring your objective even a little bit closer.

We don't want to kill you, expel you, or humiliate you. We would be happy to live peacefully as neighbors. But we are prepared to fight for our land.

This is the state of the Jewish people in its historic homeland and Jerusalem is its capital. We insist on maintaining our sovereignty here. If you can't deal with this, move. Go to Jordan (the original 'Palestinian' state), to Europe, South America, Australia, the United States. But we are not going anywhere.

Sincerely,
The Jewish people in the Land of Israel

How To Deal With The Arab Violence

The new Arab murderer was born after the handshakes – the handshakes of Rabin and Netanyahu with Yasir Arafat, the head of the PLO (the Organization to Liberate the Land of Israel from the Jews).

For his entire life, the new Arab murderer has heard from Israel that the Land is his and that we are nothing more than occupiers who will soon be moving on. The new Arab murderer thus does not need an organization to ignite him. Israel has been igniting him from the day he was born.

In 1967, during the Six-Day War of miracles, it took the IDF a day and a half to capture the entire Gaza Strip from the Egyptian army. In the summer of 2014, Gaza terrorized Israel, including Tel Aviv – for almost two months. All that Israel's much more powerful army managed to do was to achieve a fragile cease-fire with a small, motley organization of terrorists.

Menachem Begin destroyed the nuclear reactor in Iraq in 1981 with no speech in the UN and with no advance warning. Netanyahu addresses Iran's threats to destroy Israel by making speeches. He has managed to make Iran's aspirations practically legitimate, buttressed with a sly wink of the eye by international accords.

The problem began at Oslo. When Rabin and Netanyahu shook Arafat's hand and accepted in principle that Israel's heartland belongs to the Arabs, they turned themselves (and all of us) into colonialists in a foreign land, occupiers of a land that belongs to others.

If somebody sets up camp in your living room and claims to be the owner of your home, you can call the police, you can yell, or you can push him out the door. But one thing is for sure: If instead of opposing him, you offer him a part of your house, the neighbors will understand that the entire house really belongs to him.

With two cursed handshakes, Rabin and Netanyahu gave the head of the Organization to Liberate the Land of Israel from the Jews – all the Land from all the Jews – the most important weapon of all. They gave him the weapon of justice. Israel today is armed from head to toe with the most advanced and sophisticated weapons. But its mindset does not allow it to defend itself.

In the weeks to come, we will likely see more and more soldiers, more and more roadblocks, more and more severe punishments – more and more carpets being thrown over the glowing embers. As in the past, we may even think for a moment that we have managed to extinguish the fire. But it will always re-ignite for the very simple reason that we are dealing with a new generation of Arabs: intelligent, proud, and armed with the justice that we afforded them.

If the current violence does not dissipate on its own, I do not see how the present government can deal with it. They can clamp down on Judea and Samaria, but imposing a curfew on the Arab villages and towns inside Israel's pre-1967 borders does not seem likely. And even if the government will be forced to impose such a curfew, what will it do about the Arab violence in the mixed cities?

The Solution

  1. Restore Israel's confidence in the justice of its cause. Quickly end the "occupation" and return – mentally – to the Land of Israel as rightful owners.
  2. Immediate nullify the Oslo Accords and eliminate foreign groups that entertain any notion of controlling the area, just as we did in Operation Protective Shield.
  3. Restore Israeli control over all parts of the Land in our hands and declare full sovereignty in all of Judea and Samaria – as we did in the Golan Heights.
  4. The Arabs living in Judea and Samaria must be forced to declare loyalty to the Jewish state or paid to leave the country.
  5. Allocate the entire Land to its owners, the Nation of Israel – particularly all citizens who serve in the army. Allow accelerated construction throughout the Land.
  6. Any nationalist violence will be considered an act of war and the permanent resident status of its perpetrators and those close to them will be revoked.

The time has come for leadership that understands the source of the problem and is capable of dealing with it. The time has come for Zehut.
