Feeling The Suffering Of Others
Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz the late head of Mirrer Yeshiva in Jerusalem said, "While we have to work on overcoming the feeling of suffering in our personal lives, at the same time we should work on trying to feel the suffering of others." When Rabbi Shmuelevitz was in the hospital shortly before his death, another patient was put in the same room. Rabbi Shmuelevitz, who was very weak himself, wrote down with a shaky hand, "When I suffer, it is easier to feel the suffering of others."
