When in a stressful situation ask yourself, "Is this in my control or outside of my control?" It helps to imagine 3 boxes and think which box this situation belongs in: My box: thoughts, speech and actions G-d box: everything outside of our character traits (past decisions, future events, marriage, illness, wars, etc.) Other people boxes: what others think, do, feel, etc.

The Three Stooges Malice In The Palace 1949

The person who wrote this is a college (law) student. Perhaps there is hope for us after all.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together   since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is our separation agreement:

--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.

--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.

--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.

--We'll keep Bill O   '   Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters.

-- When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.

--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."

--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".

--We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

J Street U: Calling for Destruction of Israel Not Anti-Semitic

Of course it isn't.

One can have perfectly reasonable and not at all anti-Semitic reasons for believing that Jews have no right to country. Or that they should all be exterminated. Who is to say that's anti-Semitic? Certainly not J Street U, which like every anti-Israel group, thinks that the "Anti-Semitism Awareness Act" is dangerous and unhelpful.

The president of the student group J Street U has argued that it is "unfair" to describe all those who seek to end Israel's existence as antisemitic.

Zoe Goldblum's comments were sent last week "on behalf of the leadership of J Street U" to the House Judiciary Committee, as it held a hearing on antisemitism on US college campuses.

"Applying the label of 'anti-Semite' to all those who oppose the existence of the State of Israel is unfair and unhelpful overreach that ignores the nuances and sensitivities of a complicated political debate," she argued.

It's nuanced.

"Dangerously, it sends a message to students that free and open intellectual debate is somehow at odds with support for Israel."

Now, mind you, J Street U doesn't have quite this position for a students who might call for deporting all black people to Africa. But the destruction of Israel? Well that requires nuanced debate. And censoring J Street U's anti-Israel allies would violate that open and free intellectual debate. The one that the left is only willing to extend to causes and agendas that it supports.

Kahane on the Parsha

Rabbi Binyamin Kahane- Parshat Toldot

The war in Rebecca's womb is intense. In one corner sits Jacob, who at this early stage is already fighting for divine truth. And in the other corner sits Esav, who is already denying G-d and viewing life as an opportunity to indulge one's desires and passions.

This turbulence in Rebecca's stomach is when it all started. It marks the beginning of the greatest war, the war between good and evil, a war that dwarfs all others. Whether one wants to accept it or not, this war lies behind every scene in history.

Indeed, it is a war so basic and of such substance that it knows no lull. These two fetuses, which embody good and evil, are not able to stand each other even in their mother's womb. "And the children clashed inside her" (Genesis 25:22).

"It is a well-known rule that Esav hates Jacob" (Sifri, Bamidbar 69). It is an inherent, natural hatred, one that cannot be extinguished. Our Rabbis teach us that if someone comes to you and says, "Jerusalem and Edom [the Kingdom of Esav] are both thriving"- do not believe him; "both are destroyed"- do not believe him; "one is thriving and one is destroyed"- believe him (Megillah 6a).

There are those who believe the time has arrived for world peace, for coexistence between nations, religions, and races of all kinds. The Torah comes and says, "NO WAY!" There can be no peace with Esav. Jacob and Esav are polar opposites. One is good and one is evil. And there is no coexistence between good and evil.

A revolutionary idea? Hardly. Certainly not for someone who learns Torah properly. For the Jewish people, there is no aspiration to make peace with Esav. On the contrary. According to Jewish tradition, G-d is not complete and His throne is not complete until Amalek has been completely destroyed (Pesikta Rabbati 12). And who is Amalek? Esav's grandchild- an extreme manifestation of his grandfather.

What we desire is what Solomon prescribes in Kohelet- peace at the proper time and war at the proper time. yes, we all want peace, but only with good and decent people. With evil, not only aren't we interested in peace, the Torah commands us to wage an all-out war against it: "And you shall destroy the evil from thy midst!" Nothing less than that. For the war against evil is not a personal war, but rather a mission that G-d gave us the moment we breathed the air of this world--and even before that.
