1937 Ford House Car (What a Find !) and the Serenity Of Shabbos

Serenity Of Shabbos

When one observes Shabbos with a total sense of serenity, every time one thinks of Shabbos, one will feel more peaceful.

Some Shabbos observers focus on all the work they need to do for Shabbos and feel tense about this.

Mentally go beyond the work you need to do. Remember that on Shabbos you will celebrate
all that you have, all that exists on our planet, and all that exists in the entire cosmos.

This is mind-boggling. Let the joy and serenity of Shabbos permeate your being during your entire stay in this world, especially today Friday, with Shabbos coming.

Love Yehuda

I think most of you old car lovers will enjoy this one!!.

I would never have had a clue that anything like this ever existed.
Wouldn't it be great to find one?!
ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

1937 Ford House Car

One of only six said to have been made per year in the mid-'30s at the Ford plant in St. Paul, Minnesota, according to an article on this car in a 1993 "Old Cars" magazine article..  Very few others--perhaps none--remain on the road, and certainly not in such amazing original condition.  (The only other known example that I heard of was supposedly housed in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.  But that turned out to be an early 1920s Model T conversion, the curator told me.  He said he'd never seen anything like this '37!)

When discovered in a garage (under a heavy cover) in Northern Minnesota in August 2001, she had only 19,000 miles, and the owner's manual was actually still the glove box in like-new condition!  She had always been garaged and treated with much TLC as a collector vehicle.

The interior, all wood lined, was still the way it appeared in the '30s and '40s, complete with framed photos of the original owner on his travels (mainly to Florida) and his cabin in the North Woods, plus other memorabilia from the era.

Built on the '37 Ford Pickup frame and cowling (powered by a 60-hp flathead V8 with aluminum heads), the rear framing is all wood, with the metal skin wrapped around it.  The roof structure, too, is all wood, over which the heavy, waterproofed canvas top is still very securely fitted.  The structure of the body is solid, appearing from underneath to be all oak, and still in a remarkably unaltered, undamaged condition.  The door frames are thick, solid oak, and oak is visible around the window openings (as on the four side windows in back) -- though it is painted over.

She was a big hit at this campground once we got that great old flattie V8 hummin'!  Note her expanding roof and the original dark green color, which had been repainted. I figure the canvas roof was originally painted in reflective silver to keep it from getting too hot inside.. All four side windows open, while the back one tilts out to three positions.  The windshield also tilts open at the bottom for natural AC while driving.

Here are a few shots of her in August 2001, out on the road in the Chippewa National Forest north of Grand Rapids, MN practicing for her next adventure: "Destination Wavecrest 2001."

A peek inside: a slice right out of the 1930s...just as the original owner left it.  All the windows open, with curtains on the four side ones and pull-down shades on the back window, as well as on the driver's and passenger door windows.  A wide storage cabinet is located under the bed.

The wood headliner, with vent and canvas expanding portion visible. Four wood pieces hold it securely in the up position, while clamps hold it down while driving.

More interior views...  note the cedar branches hanging in the corners for that north woods aroma.  Cabinets and aluminum sink (with a wood cover insert) are visible on the left.  All the antiques stuck away inside, as well as those hanging on the walls, came along for the ride.  Also note the table behind the driver's seat, which folds down.

The Most Beautiful River In The World and Hear the underlying Factors

Hear the Underlying Factors

If you get insulted, ask yourself, "What underlying factors are motivating this person to insult me?"

Regardless of the words the person is using, the underlying message is that he is frustrated or discouraged.

Try to react towards him in the context of his underlying problems and not his actual words.

The Most Beautiful River In The World

The Most Beautiful River In The World

The river shown in the photographs is the CaƱo Cristales, which is located near the town of La Macarena in Columbia, South America. The river, world famous for its colorful display, has been called "the river that ran away to paradise," "the most beautiful river in the world" and "the river of five colors.

During a brief span between wet and dry seasons, when the water level is just right, the many varieties of algae and moss bloom in a dazzling display of colors. Without any roads leading to this river, it must be accessed by horse.

Crabbing off Grand Banks, Newfoundland ............and Resolving Indecision

Resolving Indecision

If a person is indecisive about which of two courses of action to take, the question to ask is: "Which choice will bring more honor to the Almighty?" The reply to this question is the path to choose.

1959 CAR VS A NEW 2009 and the Test of Wealth

The Test of Wealth

Rabbi Simcha Zissel of Kelm said: "It is equally wrong for a wealthy person to feel superior and speak condescendingly to others because of his wealth, as it is wrong for a poor person to feel inferior and speak submissively because of a lack of money. Both wealth and poverty are circumstances that provide tests, and are not reflections of a person's value."

CAMPING IN ALASKA...and How do I know if this is good for Me?

How Do I Know If This Is Good For Me?

When events occur in your life, at least leave the situation as a question mark in your mind, "How do I know this will really turn out bad for me?"

The answer is that you never know with absolute certainty that it will. Many things that you now perceive as strongly negative are questionable if they will really turn out bad. Why make yourself irritated in a doubtful situation by taking for granted that this is really so negative?

 CAMPING IN ALASKA

This is one lucky guy, but you know that he's hurting really bad.

Polar Bear Attack in the High Arctic

This is from up in the NWT, this chap is lucky to be alive. The guy survived the bear attack. The bear jumped on him while he was sleeping in his tent and he managed to get it off of him and shoot it

One tough camper!

This is unbelievable.  It hurts just to look at it.

This is call a see-through foot..  Polar bears are the top predator in the North American continent.

KINDA MAKES YA WANT TO STAY AT HOME AND HIDE UNDER THE BED

Strange place where boulders have platforms in OREGON

Melting Under Analysis

There are many illusory fears that will melt under analysis. When you find something difficult for you to do, ask yourself, "What exactly am I afraid of?" Often you will find that

your fears have no basis in reality. In other instances, there might be a slight loss, but it is actually quite minor and trivial.

A similar question to ask is, "What is the worst that could happen if I say or do this?" Often, your answer will be, "Nothing much."

I get right to the point, when I voice what I feel. It has to be controlled, but you save a lot of time.

Another question is, "How probable is it that I will actually suffer if I say or do this?" When you ask someone for some information or even to buy something,

the worst that will happen is that the person will refuse to give you the information, or he will refuse to buy what you are selling.

If you wouldn't have asked, you are guaranteed not to get the information or the sale.

So when you ask, the worst-case scenario is exactly the same as if you wouldn't ask. Asking has the potential for improving the situation and you have nothing to lose.
