THIS COULD ENTERTAIN YOU ALL Spring (today is the first day and Happy Purim as well LONG! and Increase Your Alacrity

Increase Your Alacrity

The opposite of procrastination and laziness is when you take care of things right away and with speed.

Think of some things that you have been pushing off taking care of. Now commit yourself to do at least one of those things as soon as you can.

After you do this, let this serve as a role model for you to increase your general level of alacrity.

Spirituality - Sometimes There are Tears in Color and Make it Interesting and Customs of Purim on Sunday

Make It Interesting

A person who is able to find fascination in all aspects of living and gaining knowledge is fortunate.

Boredom is distressful.

What are the most monotonous tasks you have to do? There are always creative ways to make things more interesting. Recall some of the ways that you have used to make potentially boring tasks more interesting. Let this be a guide for the future.

Love Yeuhuda
The story of Leah Nebenzahl, a hidden child of the Holocaust.
by Shani Silverstein
The story of Leah Nebenzahl, a hidden child of the Holocaust.

Mazel Tov! It is a bittersweet day in Vercenik, Poland, 1942. The young couple, Tzvi and Pifa Hershman, have just become the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. With her tiny, perfectly formed features, her small, delicate hands and feet, and that piercing purity of innocence that belongs to newborns alone shining out, she is a glorious site to behold. But even in these moments of celebration, they are painfully aware of the large shadow looming behind them, settling unwanted in their midst.

The flames of the Holocaust rage, and when this new life reaches three months of age, Tzvi Hershman is summoned to the notorious “labor camps” and Pifa inexplicably joins him in the pitch blackness from where there is no return. Treblinka. May their memories be blessed and may the Merciful One avenge their martyred blood.

But Tzvi and Pifa Hershman did everything within their power to give their precious child a chance to live. Who can describe the emotions surging in the breasts of these desperate parents at those crucial moments? Could the pen of the loftiest poet or the music of the most sensitive pianist ever claim to capture the cacophony of feeling; agony, heartbreak, hope, despair and faith, of loving parents forced into this type of heartrending choice?

We will never know how they felt as they handed their tenderly wrapped baby girl into the arms of a neighboring Polish policeman, along with access to all their earthly possessions and a carefully penned letter intended just for her.

We may have also never known that Tzvi and Pifa Hershman had named their baby girl Leah, were it not for a picture of the newborn, on the back of which her mother penned her name, preparing to send it to her own mother and father as a wartime gift, a burst of white light in a blackening world. A sister of Pifa carefully sewed this picture into her clothes just before being sent from the home of her parents to the notorious labor camps. She faithfully kept it until the end of the war, unwilling to forgo this remembrance of her little niece, this small symbol of hope for her survival.

The Polish Policeman tremulously brought the surprising bundle home, containing little baby Leah. But he had yet to face The Wife. And, as it turns out, The Wife was decidedly unhappy with this turn of events. She did not want any involvement with a little Jewish girl who could only bring them trouble. She bid her husband to get rid of the troublesome package and he followed her orders conscientiously as his already depleted conscience swiftly passed into a deep slumber. He placed the desperate young parents’ beloved only child onto cold, unforgiving train tracks and quickly walked away.. Who would ever fault him or his wife if an unfortunate accident happened to follow? Who, indeed? Who but himself?

For his conscience soon stirred from its slumber and began to attack him. Uncomfortable and disturbed, he ran to the local priest to confess. The priest relieved him of the test that he had so nearly failed, and asked that the baby be brought to him immediately. After some contemplation, Baby Hershman was placed at an orphanage alongside other orphaned or abandoned little souls, to await the next shift in the winds of Providence.

A Baby to Call Her Own

Congratulations! The Yopowicz couple has adopted a nine-month-old baby girl. Mrs. Yopowicz, having known the poignant longing of the childless, is very grateful to have a baby to call her own, and becomes attached to this sweet little girl. There is no reason to over-speculate as to her origins. She has been baptized like any properly raised child of her small Polish village. Baby Basha Christina Yopowicz has come home.

But Mrs. Yopowicz, what do you see in the depths of your new daughter's intense dark eyes? Do you see the shifting shadows that hint of a secret pleading to be recalled? Can you sense the restless agony of a misplaced soul that none of your gentle affections ever seem to touch? Can you feel the weighted pressure of repressed lofty light when you cradle her tenderly in your arms and proudly display her as your own, for all to admire? Why do you think you hear the muffled sound of a distant ram's horn deep within a dream when this baby cries?

She's mine now, you harshly tell the troublesome dissenting sentiments in your hearts deepest depths. We have rightfully adopted and baptized her. She belongs to myself, my husband and my people.

Does she really, Mrs. Yopowicz? Will she ever?

Signs of Life

From the blood stained, charred incinerators of Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen, Esther Eisenberg and her daughter Tzipporah emerge, fragile, broken and whole. Has anyone else survived? Perhaps her mother, a sister or brother? Perhaps a cousin, a neighbor, a friend? Anyone? Quivering voices call out in hope and longing, and silence responds in deafening, rippling echoes. Like so many others, Esther turns to one of the many hastily set up centers for the remnants of surviving European Jewry, and anxiously interrogates the young female secretary regarding her sister Pifa and her brother-in-law, Tzvi, as she dutifully notes her own and her daughter's survival and whereabouts in the log presented to her. The harried secretary listens distractedly and then suddenly glances up from her sacred work and gazes at Esther intently.

“Vercenik? Did you say Vercenik?” Her hometown.

“Yes, I knew Pifa and Tzvi Hershman....” Her voice trails off and thins into silence for some long moments as her heart turns over and remembers. Yizkor.

“Your sister had a baby before they were taken...and her whereabouts are recorded here.”

Esther's heart skips a beat. Then, like gasping waves of water under a rushing, surging tide, the thin, wavering voice of a five-year-old child rises above the din of outraged graves and reaches the avidly listening ear of her mother's sister. A surge of triumph momentarily overwhelms and rejuvenates her nearly depleted being. Life! She had found Life! Her sister's child was alive!

And for Esther, there was no debate as to whom she belonged to, nor would there ever be. A singular mission instantly enveloped her as she set out to claim her sister's child and bring her home. In the ocean of wrongs that heavily blanketed the harsh, frozen landscape of the aftermath of Evil’s army, Esther Eisenberg would set one particular wrong right.

Familiar with the perversity of the times, she knew that she would be refused if she simply asked for the child to be returned. Turning to the often lawless law for justice could also yield an uncertain and possibly irreversible outcome. So Esther Eisenberg, together with her nephew, Pinchas Eisenberg and Captain Yeshayahu Drucker (both notable activists in saving Jewish child survivors after the Holocaust) became the ringleader of a small band of kidnappers. The threesome daringly drove into the small village early one morning, intent upon executing their mission, swiftly and finally. However, several of the villagers took notice of the strange car and its inhabitants, surmised its purpose, and promptly began a rumor that spread to eagerly receiving ears. Jews had come to kidnap a good Christian child! The horror of it!

An angry crowd soon formed, and guns were readily poised and aimed. With their lives now under direct threat, they quickly reversed directions and accelerated the vehicle, just narrowly missing a hailstorm of bullets as they sped away.

The initial rescue effort had failed, but Esther's determination remained as strong as ever. With no other recourse, she turned to the oft corrupt police and the tainted courthouses. Ultimately, it would take two full years of trials, mistrials and retrials, before she could claim her own, including many long, cold nights passed on hard, narrow benches outside of police stations and courthouses under the black, star-studded blanket of the ever watchful heavens.

At long last, the fated day arrived. Then, Providence and earthly Justice embraced to deliver the favorable verdict that sent the now five and a half year old Leah into the arms of her devoted aunt and the lap of her nation.

Long Journey Home

For Mrs. Yopowicz, it was time to say goodbye. She fabricated a tale for the child who knew her only as Mother, explaining that she that she had no more money to care for her and was therefore delivering her into the hands of strangers. Confused, agonized by a searing sense of abandonment, Leah screamed to stay with the only parents she had ever known. Her borrowed identity had been branded upon her heart as deeply as the dehumanizing black string of numbers branded upon those sent to labor for the eternally enslaved and she simply could not comprehend the unfolding drama. Why was she being taken from her home? Over time, kind, meaningful explanations were gently impressed upon her, but as she was so young, this primal question would remain largely unanswered somewhere deep within, for a very long time and the scars of this trauma would not easily heal.

They drove to the town of Zabrze, where Leah was placed in a temporary home along with other rescued Jewish children, as her aunt prepared for their eventual journey to Israel. There, the slow process of learning about her identity, her past and her people commenced as adult Jewish caregivers, mostly fellow survivors and refugees, tirelessly attempted to educate the tragically misplaced children with stories of the Land of Israel, demonstrations of the lighting of Shabbat candles, and spontaneous plays and skits enacting various elements of their heritage. However, for a long time, this little girl and many of her peers, would resist the transfer from the kneeling position and the cross to the erect posture, raised arm and covered eyes of the Shema, even as their souls found instant recognition and increasing peace with each remembered bit of their identity and heritage.

Days came and went and soon, Esther Eisenberg was ready. She picked up Leah from the children's home as promised, and together they began the long and perilous journey to their destination, the Land of Israel. Each challenge or roadblock along the way was lightened somewhat by the knowledge that they were truly going home.

Leah's first destination in Israel was a temporary shelter for incoming refugees of the Holocaust in Netanya where she joined half a million other survivors, each with their own private stash of searing memories.

Determined to expose Leah, not only to the Land of Israel, but also to the Judaism that had defined the life of her martyred parents, Aunt Esther sent her to a religious elementary school for Jewish girls, and later, to a religious High School at the Kibbutz Chafetz Chaim. Leah testifies that her ultimate decision to live a fully observant life was her own, albeit favorably affected by her education.

In her own words: “As I matured, my faith matured along with me and in time it seemed plain to me that the events of my life and those around me could not be a coincidence, that there was something or someone larger at work, guiding me all along the way. I also saw that the religious Jews had value and meaning in their lives, something which I did not see in the wider world”.

Leah Hershman would never know her mother or father, nor would she have any memories of the place from whence she came, and as a result, her search for identity would be long and painful. But despite her personal travails, despite the horrors her eyes had seen and her heart remembered, she would victoriously join the legions of heroic persons from time immemorial who achieve the ultimate triumph over Evil by embracing its opposite.

Indeed, her life today is a shining testament to the resilience of the Jewish People and the Jewish faith. Leah (Hershman) Nebenzahl is a renowned Israeli poetess and has produced two brilliant books of poetry that chronicles both her literal and inner journey back to her people and homeland in complex, moving prose whose many references and quotes from the Torah, testify to the depth of her knowledge and understanding of our ancient texts. Now residing in Jerusalem, Leah enjoys a decades-long marriage to the physicist and Torah scholar, Professor Shaya Nebenzahl. They are the proud, devoted parents of five children and doting grandparents to many more, each a lasting symbol of the triumph of faith, each another precious light unto our nation.

“Sometimes there are cries in color
and sometimes in words and notes
and sometimes they stop
at the threshold”
(Nebenzahl 49: 1-4)

Yes, sometimes there are cries in color; in muted shades of red, black and grey, in deep mournful purples and midnight blues, in shifting shades of light and night.

Some cries have words that were never heard, others have words that were never spoken and still others have words that will never be remembered.

Some cries are comforted, others are stifled, some are stilled, others are muted, and some are consoled until next time.

“And some nights I would wish
to string them
like pearls
until You come down”
(Nebenzahl 49; 8-12)

ditor's Note Purim begins this year after Shabbat ends on the evening of March 19th, and continues through Sunday night, March 20th. What follows is a brief step-by-step guide to Purim observance. We have also included links to additional Purim resources.

The festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). It commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman's plot "to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day."

The story in a nutshell:

The Persian empire of the 4th century BCE extended over 127 lands, and all the Jews were its subjects. When King Ahasuerus had his wife, Queen Vashti, executed for failing to follow his orders, he orchestrated a beauty pageant to find a new queen. A Jewish girl, Esther, found favor in his eyes and became the new queen-though she refused to divulge the identity of her nationality.

Meanwhile, the anti-Semitic Haman was appointed prime minister of the empire. Mordechai, the leader of the Jews (and Esther's cousin), defied the king's orders and refused to bow to Haman. Haman was incensed and convinced the king to issue a decree ordering the extermination of all the Jews on the 13th of Adar-a date chosen by a lottery Haman made.

Mordechai galvanized all the Jews, convincing them to repent, fast and pray to G‑d. Meanwhile, Esther asked the king and Haman to join her for a feast. At the feast, Esther revealed to the king her Jewish identity. Haman was hanged, Mordechai was appointed prime minister in his stead, and a new decree was issued-granting the Jews the right to defend themselves against their enemies.

On the 13th of Adar the Jews mobilized and killed many of their enemies. On the 14th of Adar they rested and celebrated.

1) Listen to the Megillah

To relive the miraculous events of Purim, listen to the reading of the Megillah (the Scroll of Esther) twice: once on Purim eve, Saturday night, March 19, and again on Purim day, March 20.

To properly fulfill the mitzvah, it is crucial to hear every single word of the Megillah.

At certain points in the reading where Haman's name is mentioned, it is customary to twirl graggers (Purim noisemakers) and stamp one's feet to "eradicate" his evil name. Tell the children that Purim is the only time when it's a mitzvah to make noise!

Please Note: This year, the first Megillah reading takes place after Shabbat ends. One should be careful not to travel to the synagogue to hear the reading prior to the end of Shabbat (click here for times), or before saying the special prayer: "Blessed is the One who separates between holy and mundane." If one owns his own Megillah scroll, it should be brought to the synagogue prior to Shabbat (since one may not prepare on Shabbat for after Shabbat).

2) Give to the Needy (Matanot La'evyonim)

Concern for the needy is a year-round responsibility; but on Purim it is a special mitzvah to remember the poor.

Give charity to at least two (but preferably more) needy individuals on Purim day, March 20.

The mitzvah is best fulfilled by giving directly to the needy. If, however, you cannot find poor people, place at least two coins into a charity box. As with the other mitzvahs of Purim, even small children should be taught to fulfill this mitzvah.

3) Send Food Portions to Friends (Mishloach Manot)

On Purim we emphasize the importance of Jewish unity and friendship by sending gifts of food to friends.

On Purim day, March 20, send a gift of at least two kinds of ready-to-eat foods (e.g., pastry, fruit, beverage) to at least one friend. Men should send to men and women to women. It is preferable that the gifts be delivered via a third party. Children, in addition to sending their own gifts of food to their friends, make enthusiastic messengers.

4) Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Purim should be celebrated with a special festive meal on Purim day, at which family and friends gather together to rejoice in the Purim spirit. It is a mitzvah to drink wine or other inebriating drinks at this meal.

Special Prayers (Al Hanissim, Torah reading)

On Purim we include the Al HaNissim prayer, which describes the Purim miracle, in the evening, morning and afternoon prayers, as well as in the Grace After Meals. In the morning service there is a special reading from the Torah scroll in the synagogue (Exodus 17:8-16).

Purim Customs: Masquerades and Hamantashen

A time-honored Purim custom is for children to dress up and disguise themselves-an allusion to the fact that the miracle of Purim was disguised in natural garments. This is also the significance behind a traditional Purim food, the hamantash-a pastry whose filling is hidden within a three-cornered crust.

Pre- and Post-Purim Observances:

Torah Reading of "Zachor"

On the Shabbat before Purim (this year, March 19), a special reading is held in the synagogue. We read the Torah section called Zachor ("Remember"), in which we are enjoined to remember the deeds of (the nation of) Amalek (Haman's ancestor) who sought to destroy the Jewish people.

The Fast of Esther

To commemorate the prayer and fasting that the Jewish people held during the Purim story, we fast on the day before Purim. This year, because the day before Purim is Shabbat, we fast the Thursday beforehand-on March 17. The fast begins approximately an hour before sunrise and lasts until nightfall. Click here for exact times for your location.

The "Half Coins" (Machatzit Hashekel)

It is a tradition to give three coins in "half" denominations-e.g., three half-dollar coins-to charity, to commemorate the half-shekel that each Jew contributed as his share in the communal offerings in the time of the Holy Temple. This custom, usually performed in the synagogue, is done on the afternoon of the "Fast of Esther," or before the reading of the Megillah.

Shushan Purim

In certain ancient walled cities-Jerusalem is the primary example-Purim is observed not on the 14th of Adar (the date of its observance everywhere else) but on the 15th of Adar. This is to commemorate that fact that in the ancient walled city of Shushan, where the battles between the Jews and their enemies extended for an additional day, the original Purim celebration was held not on the 14th but on the 15th of Adar.

The 15th of Adar is thus called "Shushan Purim," and is a day of joy and celebration also in those places where it is not observed as the actual Purim.

Red Sea Crossing w/Actual Pictures and the fast of Esther as part of the fun holiday of Purim on St. Pats day 3/17/11

Try As Much As Possible

Rabbi Yisroel Salanter used to say, "There is no greater illness than discouragement." At times a person may take note of all his faults and failures and give up hope of improving.

But when it comes to monetary wealth, a person tries to gather as much money as possible even if he will not become wealthy. Someone suffering physical pain also tries to alleviate some of the pain even if he is unable to bring about a complete cure.

Therefore Rabbi Salanter said our attitude towards refraining from evil and performing good deeds should be the same. Even if someone will be far from perfect, he should at least try to do as many good deeds as possible and refrain from violating as many prohibitions as he can.

Fast Begins at 5:43 AM
Fast Ends at 7:22 PM

Because Adar 13 (the day before Purim) falls on a Shabbat this year, the "Fast of Esther," usually observed on that date, is moved back to today.

The fast -- which is observed today by all adults (i.e., over bar or bat mitzvah age) -- is in commemoration of the three-day fast called at Esther's behest before she risked her life to appear unsummoned before King Achashveirosh to save the Jewish people from Haman's evil decree The fast also commemorates Esther's fasting on the 13th of Adar, as the Jews fought their enemies. Pregnant of nursing woman or people in ill health are exempted from fasting.

Mathematics - Be sure to watch to the very end! and Prevent Unnecessary sadness!!

Prevent Unnecessary Sadness

Sadness is often the result of arrogance. When an arrogant person suffers misfortune, he says to himself, "These things should not be happening to a person like myself."

The humble person, however, calmly accepts whatever he is unable to change. Hence he is never needlessly sad.

As we learn from the Wisest man in the bible, King Solomon, Turn, Turn, Turn, there is a time and place for everything.

AMAZING photos for the New Year! and Renew Your appreciation for Life!!

Renew Your Appreciation

Make it a daily practice to view the world as if you were created today. Mentally picture yourself coming into the world for the first time, and observe everything with a freshness. This exercise can transform the mundane into a thrilling experience.

Thia is why people who accept the idea of a creator pray daily.  If it is true that we exist because we here because somebody thought about us and wanted us to be here,

rather than an accident of nature, isn't it just common decency to say thank you? It is also why spiritual people are happier than those that believe they are here by accident.

After all, which child is happier? The one who is told by his/her parents that he was a planned, treasured, and wanted addition to the family or the child who is told he was an accident of sex?

Spectacular Australian Natural Phenomenon and Feelings Aren't Facts

  Feelings Aren't Facts

Some people feel discouraged. They then assume that these feelings are facts: since they feel discouraged that is a "proof" there is no hope. But feelings only represent a person's present state of mind, they cannot predict the future.

They can ask themselves: "Do my present feelings actually prove that there is no hope?" Of course not. There is never absolute proof that your situation will not improve. By believing you have no hope, you are causing yourself great harm. Adopt the attitude: "It is always possible that the future will turn out much brighter than I presently feel it will. What constructive action can I take for improvement?

Geography Lessons for Retirees and Be Glad you didn't

  Be Glad You Didn't

When people think about happiness, they usually think about being happy for positive things that occur. Rabbi Simcha Zissel of Kelm, (1824-1898) wrote to his students to appreciate what didn't happen. He commented on a puzzling custom that he saw. When a shirt would fall from a clothesline down into the dirt, some people would say, "I am grateful that I wasn't in that shirt." It sort of makes you want to smile, doesn't it?

He explained that people play games and listen to music in order to enjoy life. Developing the habit of being grateful for all the wrong things that didn't occur in your life will add to your daily dose of enjoyment.

When you learn to appreciate what didn't happen, it's mind- boggling how many bad things don't happen to you in one day. I've told some people to make a daily list of ten bad things that didn't happen to them. Some find this unpleasant. And for them there are other paths to appreciation.

All About Woodies, and Fame and Happiness

Fame and Happiness

Many people mistakenly think that being famous will automatically make them happy.

But happiness depends on what goes on in your mind and not what happens "out there."

Hence if you are thinking negative thoughts, you will be sad even if everyone else in the world is speaking about how great you are.

Conversely, if you think positive thoughts, you will feel good even if no one gives you honor.

Happiness is dependent on your thoughts and not on what other people say about you, unless you tell yourself you cannot be happy

without the approval and honor of others. But when such is the case, the main problem is not that others do not give you honor,

but that you tell yourself it is awful that other people do not give you the honor you arbitrarily demand.

Do I pay for the ride? and Jessica and Joe Get Married 03.06.11

Last night my friends Jessica and Joe got married...It is nice to be young and beautiful, see U-tube video below and read what the bible says about a typical business problem.

Love Yehuda

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-FYykWb6Xc

GOOD MORNING! What do you think is the first question that you will be asked in the World to Come? The Talmud in, Shabbat 31a tells us that the very first question is "Were you honest in business?" Amazing! Everyone is seeking spirituality, an emotional connection with G-d - and the Talmud is telling us that if you want to be God-like, then treat people with honesty.

Pirkei Avos, Ethics of the Fathers (an anthology of wise sayings), 2:6 teaches: "An ignoramus cannot be pious." We can't just trust our instincts and our heart as to what is right. (Sometimes you can't tell whether you have a burning heart ... or heartburn.) One must study and know the Bible to know what is the right thing to do. How? I personally enjoy reading articles sent from the Business Halacha Institute. Each week I test my moral compass to see how I would have done in the situation. Here's a recent article by Rabbi Meir Orlian, a writer for the Business Halacha Institute, about someone canceling a car service... (the Bible  sources are in parentheses).

Tuvia answered his cellphone, "Hello! Tuvia's Car Service." "Good morning Tuvia," said Mr. Gluck. "Can you pick up my brother from the airport tomorrow at 7 AM?" Tuvia checked his schedule. "I have something at 9, but am available at 7," he said, "It costs $40. Should I put you down?" "Yes, please," said Mr. Gluck.

No sooner had Mr. Gluck hung up, when another person called. "Are you available to take me to the city tomorrow morning at 7?" "Sorry," said Tuvia, "but I just booked someone else then."

At 8:30 P.M., Mr. Gluck called again. "Good evening, Tuvia," he said. "I'm sorry for disturbing you." "That's OK," said Tuvia. "We're set for tomorrow at 7. Right?" "Actually," said Mr. Gluck, "My neighbor has to pick up his son anyway from the same flight as my brother. Is it OK if I cancel?"

"It's actually a problem," said Tuvia. "After you booked, another person asked me to drive him at 7, and I had to turn him down." "Maybe he still needs a ride?" suggested Mr. Gluck hopefully. "I'll check," said Tuvia, "but at this point it's not likely." Tuvia tried the other person, but he had made alternate arrangements. He called Mr. G. back: "He made other arrangements, and at 8:30 in the evening, it's not likely that anyone else will call."

"Well, there's no point in your going to the airport," said Mr. Gluck. "It's just a waste of time and gas." "That's true," said Tuvia. "But what do you expect me to do? I gave up a potential job for this. You're causing me to lose $40!" "I'm not sure what to do about the money," said Mr. Gluck. "But don't waste your time going." He hung up.

Tuvia turned to his wife. "People think they can just book and cancel at whim! I'd like to hear what Rabbi Dayan has to say about this." Tuvia asked Mr. Gluck to meet with Rabbi Dayan and discuss the issue. "Does Mr. Gluck have to pay me the $40?" Tuvia asked. "In general, if a person hires a worker with a verbal agreement and retracts before the worker begins the job, the worker does not have a monetary claim," replied Rabbi Dayan. "However, he can have tar'umos (complaints) against the person for having caused him extra effort to find alternate work. Therefore, it's not ethical to retract without good cause. If alternate work is readily available, though, the worker can't have a complaint (Choshen Mishpat, SM"A, Shach, and Aruch Hashulchan 333:1).

"But it's not fair here," protested Tuvia. "I was not able to find an alternate job for that time." "I was getting to that," said Rabbi Dayan. "The person is only exempt if the worker can find an alternate job, albeit with some effort, or if the worker had no other potential job. However, if the worker could have taken another job earlier and now he cannot find one, it is considered a davar ha'aved (loss) for the worker, and the person has to pay him for having caused that loss (C.M. 333:2)."

"It's not fair that I should have to pay $40, though," argued Mr. Gluck. "Although Tuvia lost the job and the $40, he did not have to pay for gas; he did not have to get up early, spend time driving there and back, or sit in traffic. He had the morning off." "That's true," acknowledged Tuvia, "but still, I lost out."

"Mr. Gluck obviously does not have to pay for gas," Rabbi Dayan said. "Furthermore, a worker will often be willing to accept partial salary and have free time. Therefore, he does not have to pay Tuvia the full price for his labor, but rather as a poel batel (idle worker), which means the amount a worker would be willing to accept to have the time free. This is typically evaluated at half the wages, although it depends on the difficulty and pay scale of the work (Taz C.M. 333:1; Pischei Choshen, Sechirus 10(10)). "Therefore," Rabbi Dayan concluded, "if Tuvia's usual fare to the airport is $40, which includes $10 for gas, Mr. Gluck has to pay $15."

"Would there be a different decision in the following situation?" asked Mr. Gluck, "Let's say that the plane was significantly delayed or diverted." "If you had to cancel for reasons beyond your control and were responsible about notifying the worker promptly," replied Rabbi Dayan, "you do not have to pay, even if the worker lost out on alternate work or went already (C.M. 333:2)."

We learn that G-d is in the details.

GO figure!/interesting year..2011 and Life doesn't get any better (unless you make it better)

GOOD MORNING! How would you feel if you won the lottery? Most people would feel elated - one of the best days of their life! Why? In truth, nothing has changed. You don't have the money in hand. Nothing has actually changed, all the changes are going to happen tomorrow. Today, right now, your life hasn't altered one iota.

However, right now you're thrilled. Why? The answer is, how you think about tomorrow changes how you feel today. You will be able to pay off your mortgage, retire debts, help the kids buy homes, set up funds for the grandchildren's educations and help all of the organizations that you've always wanted to help in a big way. That means if you knew something really good was going to happen tomorrow, then today would be great.

The one thing that the Almighty doesn't do well is second best. Everyday He gives us what is best for us. Your life is as good as it can possibly get; God can't make it any better. If God could make your life better, He would. The challenges we face in life are what we require; to give us the opportunity to develop our character,to develop spiritually and to come closer to the Almighty, and to save people money on their taxes!!!

So, why don't we win the lottery? Because it's not good for us.

Have you ever heard of the "Curse of the Lottery"? It is almost proverbial that if one wins the lottery, he will end up divorced, pursued, sued, sometimes addicted ... and eventually broke and broken. Winning has led to the murder of the winner by close relatives who want to inherit the money, the death of children and death of grandchildren. Probably more than one "winner" has said in retrospect, "Had I known what would have happened from winning, I would have torn up the ticket!"

Yet, we all believe it won't happen to us. We will be different. Obviously, God disagrees.

Which life would you rather live: a) "curse of the lottery" or b) life without winning the lottery? (I know what you are thinking, "I want to win the lottery without the curse!")

Let me repeat, God doesn't do second best. Giving you the lottery would be second best, if not worse.

That means you are living the best life you could possibly live; if it could be any better, it would. The only reason you are not jumping with joy on a constant basis, is that you want to believe that having the things you don't have would make your life better.

Join the club! There are approximately 6 billion people on this planet and they all think that there are things in life that would complete their lives. And they are all wrong.

You have everything you need to be as happy as you can possibly be; however, it's easier to blame your misery on assumed lacks than it is to enjoy life.

Nobody is walking around saying: "Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This" or "It couldn't be better." Not Bill Gates, nor Warren Buffet, nor the President, nor anyone. Everyone thinks they are missing something. Money, friends, love, intelligence, luck, health, the list goes on and on.

We all want to believe we are missing something so that we don't have to face the reality that we are really responsible for our own misery. It's very interesting, but this is so much easier to see in other people, and of course they can see it in you.

When you start to think about why you don't have what you want, you can start to realize that what you do have, and similarly, what you don't have, is really good for you.

The trick of life is to want to be the kind of person where winning the lottery, or whatever you want in life would not ruin your life, and hopefully tomorrow that will happen. But at the same time to realize the life you have now, and the one you are going to get tomorrow is the best it could be. "Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This." Say it often and enjoy!

A few  weeks ago we read the basis of the bible, the TEN COMMANDMENTS. The most difficult one to understand is the last, don't covert your neighbors possessions.  This is difficult to understand, because everyone want's something better when they see it.

When one know what you have is the best for you, you can learn to practice this commandment, because you don't want to wear someone else's glasses or shoes, because no matter how nice they are, they weren't made for YOU!!!

Patience is a learn-able skill. Even those who have been impatient their entire lives can learn to become more patient. Your present resolve and determination will transform you.

Every thing that happens to us in life has a learning lesson in life...We just don't always know when the incident happens is a blessing or a curse.

I am married to a zaducuss (holy woman) who can find the high side of even the most negative experiences.  I can preach but can not always practice what I preach..She on the

other hand practices more and preaches less. This morning I am taking her to the airport to Israel, for her to perform some more kindness for her children. She will be separated from me for four months. She is a true mother

practicing selflessness when her children need her.She is not perfect, she has like all human beings her strengths and weaknesses. However, her eye is always on the ball, balancing how she can live independently from her children, but being there when they need her.

My patience gets tried, when she tries to practice her love, by being over the top with allowing all our lives to be interrupted by her Children's  unacceptable (by most people's standards) abnormal behavior

So it was no accident that my motivation piece this morning I choose, and the enclosed video about the horse Whisperer expresses aspects of Patience...May you all be blessed with the ability to learn patience, and not have the curse with suffering that goes along with it.

Love Yehuda

THIS IS TRULY REMARKABLE!!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS WITH A HORSE & RIDER.

The RedMan said it.

 Horse Whisperer    -     Unbelievable!

This girl riding the horse is in her 20's - her dad just died 24 days before this performance. You can hear her dedication to him just before her performance so turn up your  speakers a bit. Notice that it is just her and the horse - no bit,no saddle. She just uses signals and verbal cues, she's mute. Oh yeah, this isn't even her horse. She is training it for someone else, although she obviously has a relationship with this one. I don't know how much you know about horseback riding, but when they go fast, her bum isn't even bouncing off the horse like you will see with most people. Don't know how she did that.

Gorgeous nature photos and an Immature man

"The mark of an immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one."
